You can begin to see the famous Rocky Mountains when you arrive in Holyoke, but the landscapes around town are quite a bit different than the fabled mountain views Colorado is known for. Holyoke is a small village in northeastern Colorado, and despite its population of a few thousand, it is the largest city in Phillips County as well as its county seat.

Holyoke was first incorporated back in 1888 and was originally named for Holyoke in Massachusetts. The land once served as a hunting ground, used by the nomadic Great Plains tribes, before being sectioned off and sold to people from back east. Holyoke was then chosen to be the hub for the entire county, receiving funds to build a marvelous courthouse and other public governmental buildings.

It may not be as exciting as Denver or its sister towns up in the Rocky Mountains, but Holyoke is a peaceful community where you can kick back and relax. When you book an RV in Holyoke, you can take it to the far-flung corners of Colorado, visiting its many parks and forests, or head east into Nebraska to camp out beside one of its stunning lakes.

Discover Holyoke

The Great Outdoors

Even in the flat regions of Colorado, you are bound to find some amazing places to visit with your Holyoke camper rental. North Sterling State Park is located on the other side of Sterling, with a massive reservoir. The lake is loaded with various types of fish, making it a popular fishing destination in the warmer months. There are six miles of hiking and biking trails circling the lake, and some wide-open beaches where you can have a campfire or stay with your Holyoke motorhome rental. In addition to hundreds of campsites, there is a visitor center to welcome guests.

Enders Reservoir State Recreation Area can be found over the state line in Nebraska, on Enders Reservoir. Combined with Church Grove Recreation Area, the entire lake is surrounded by places to relax by the beach, go for hikes, canoe, kayak, boat, go fishing, water ski, and much more. Both state recreation areas have campgrounds too, so you will feel right at home when you head off to Nebraska with the Holyoke travel trailer rental.

To the north, Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area is one of the best-known places to camp in all of Nebraska. The massive lake was created by damming the North Platte River, creating a 35,000-acre body of water. The park is outstanding for fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, and camping much like the other two recreation areas mentioned before.

If you want to put your Holyoke camper rental to good use, head west through Boulder to Rocky Mountain National Park, one of the most legendary national parks in the country. There is nothing more iconic in Colorado than the towering Rocky Mountains, which can be conquered and climbed by adventurous visitors. Subalpine meadows, fields of wildflowers, alpine lakes, snowy mountain peaks, and lush forests are part of the fun at this enchanting park.

RV Parks

RV parks and campgrounds can be a challenge to find near Holyoke, unlike the more mountainous parts of the state. You can always take a ride to North Sterling State Park or Jackson Lake State Park for some rustic camping by the water, where fishing, hiking, swimming, and campfires will help you reconnect with nature.

Creekside RV Park & Campground is just over the border in Nebraska on the outskirts of town. There are grassy, spacious lots where you can park your Holyoke motorhome rental, in addition to bathrooms, hot showers, a dog park, and nature paths.

Sleepy Sunflower RV Park is an inviting place that will make you feel at home while you relax. There is a discount for all military, police, first responders, and firefighters and their families. There is a supply shop on-site, along with a gift shop, laundry facilities, and a library with videos and books.

City Sightseeing

Holyoke isn’t a place known for its sightseeing, but there are a few fun things to check out when you rent an RV in the small city. The Heginbotham Library is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in the entire town, with unique architecture reminiscent of a Christmastime gingerbread house. This historical treasure has an amazing assortment of books and photographs and some great old paintings too. This historic landmark coupled with the Phillips County Courthouse is a great way to spend an hour or two.

Aside from its older homes and buildings, Holyoke has a variety of art galleries, breweries, upscale dining options, swimming pools, movie theaters, and much more. If you want to explore a larger town, you can go to the Fort Morgan Museum over in Fort Morgan, and learn about the history of the Great Plains and its former inhabitants like the Cheyenne and Sioux people. There are exhibits telling the stories of settlers, natives, and even Glenn Miller, a famous jazz performer born in Fort Morgan.
