The small town of Hominy, Oklahoma is situated in Osage County, on the lands of the Osage Nation indigenous people. The Osage people once called the Ohio Valley home but were forcefully removed and sent to live in Oklahoma. This unique little town is less than an hour’s drive from Tulsa, but otherwise exists in a highly rural area.

Much of Hominy’s heritage and history are interwoven with that of the Osage people, and their potent culture is reflected in all facets of life. Hominy’s economy mainly revolves around its natural gas, oil production, and agriculture. The town’s biggest claim to fame is the Hominy Indians football team that successfully beat the reigning champions, the New York Giants football team in 1927. This team was the source of a documentary that was released in 2014 entitled “Playground of the Native Son”.

Discover Hominy

Experience the Sites and Scenery

Hominy does not have many public parks, but this should not discourage prospective vacationers. This town is an excellent hub to rent an RV, centrally located near several lakes, parks, and other outdoor recreation areas. Hominy Municipal Lake is adjacent to the town of Hominy and is a prime place to cool off during the hot, dry, summers. There are baseball diamonds, open meadows, a boat ramp, and sandy beaches that line the shores of the lake.

Osage Hills State Park is a fabulous place to start on your Hominy RV rental journey, located to the north near Bartlesville. Osage Hills has some excellent fishing in Lookout Lake, where bass, crappie, catfish, and perch can be caught. Both beginner and challenging, expert hiking trails permeate the park, and there is a bevy of RV-friendly camping sites for your Hominy motorhome rental. Hulah Lake is even farther to the north, but yields some excellent recreation areas provided you don't mind traveling there in your Hominy camper rental. Hulah Lake State Waterfowl Refuge, Hulah Lake State Game Management Area, Skull Creek Public Access area and Turkey Creek Point Public Area are some of the recreation area options at Hulah Lake, but Wah-Sha-She Park State Park is the premier facility on the lake. Birdwatching, hiking, fishing, and boating are the most common activities at Wah-Sha-She.

On the other side of Tulsa, there are more lakes that serve as popular destinations throughout the year, and especially during summertime. Sequoyah State Park on Fort Gibson Lake is a fantastic vacation place with an on-site lodge, swimming pool, and restaurant. Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge over by Muskogee contains three massive reservoirs that are great for recreational purposes. Many people visit this delightful refuge to spot rare birds and observe the annual migration of the monarch butterflies. Other options to visit are Ozark National Forest and Ouachita National Forest in neighboring Arkansas, where millions of acres of pristine wilderness habitat, otherworldly geological formations, and stunning waterfalls can be seen and photographed.

City Attractions
