Lisbon is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland; it was founded in 1810 as New Lisbon and later had its name shortened. The town creator subdivided the town in 1822 into 100 quarter-acre lots; it had eight stagecoaches coming and going daily by 1835. The single room Annapolis Rock School was built in 1894 and served the community until 1943. The Lisbon Hotel is said to be the community's oldest surviving building; it supported a post office in 1851 and was attracting coach and train visitors from Baltimore by 1860. The town was the first community in Maryland to have a traffic roundabout, built in 1993.

RV rentals in Howard County are where your adventure begins; where it will take you is entirely up to you. There are some towns worth visiting in addition. The Great Outdoors

South Mountain State Park is a multi-use park existing between the Pennsylvania-Maryland state line and the Potomac River. The park is open to the public from early morning to sunset year-round, and it is a popular destination for hiking and hunting. It can be accessed from a variety of places and is generally only accessible by foot. South Mountain, within the park, has a number of scenic vistas and is Maryland's portion of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. The park has two areas designated for hunting with a valid license; hunters and hikers are reminded that some areas within the park are private property. Park your Lisbon RV trailer rental nearby, and you can finish your outdoor excursions in the lap of luxury.

Patuxent Research Refuge was established by then-President Franklyn D. Roosevelt in 1936 to support wildlife research; it is the only refuge in the country created for this purpose. The park is divided into three areas: north, central and south. Most of the research is conducted in the central area, while public access is granted in the north and south. The park consists of upland and floodplain forest pockets, oak-pine savannah barrens, and coastal plain river and creek habitats. It is home to bird species like the scarlet tanager, the eastern red bats, and more than 100 varieties of bees. The National Wildlife Visitor Center in the south area offers public programs and events. Hiking trails are located in the north and south areas, providing nature and wildlife observations, while fishing and hunting are allowed in the north area.

Patapsco Valley State Park is based around the Patapsco River and has eight cultivated recreational areas, plus additional undisturbed locations. It has hundreds of miles of trails, some of which are developed and maintained; some of the trails are multi-use, and some are for hiking only. Canoeing and fishing are allowed, as is camping. There are numerous pavilions for individual and group picnics.
