London is where you will find the World Chicken Festival each and every year. From the late 1930s until the early '40s, London, KY, was one of many central collection agencies for books that were donated to the Pack Horse Library Project. The project delivered books to those in rural areas who could not come and get the books themselves.

Discover London

The Great Outdoors

Daniel Boone National Forest is situated next to London (London sits right along the eastern boundary); it is a thin stretch of land, starting south of London at Williamsburg, and heading roughly northeast as far as Morehead. The 708,000-acre forest is characterized by rugged terrain; steep forested slopes are interspersed with sandstone cliffs and narrow ravines. Cave Run Lake, Laurel River Lake and Lake Cumberland are all within the park, as well as many rivers and the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail, which extends across the forest from the southernmost tip to the northern tip. Visitors here can hike, ride (mountain bikes, ATVs and horseback), picnic, go boating, fishing, hunting, rock climbing and more. Some of the activities may require permits. Visitors should know and follow the USDA Forest Service's rules while they are here; maps and other information can be had at the London Ranger District office.

Kentucky Ridge State Forest, a 15,251-acre parcel of land, is south and slightly east of London. It is managed to allow sustainable logging along with public access. Guests can go hunting and fishing (subject to USDA Forest Service rules), hiking, horseback riding and picnicking. ATVs and other off-road vehicles are not allowed in the forest, but visitors can keep their London motorhome rental nearby to have a place to relax when they are finished.

RV Parks

London, Kentucky, has a number of good RV campgrounds within the city and farther out, suited to your London camper rental. Levi Jackson State Park is a family-oriented campground, with full hookups (water, sewer and electricity), wi-fi, pull-through and big rig access, and a swimming pool. It has restrooms and showers, and there are fire rings and picnic tables at each site. There is a playground for young kids and trails for hiking.

Westgate RV Campground is a small RV resort. It is located behind the Budget Host Motel and has a big gravel center that makes it easy to get into the sites, which are both back in and pull through. It has a swimming pool, a playground and a good selection of nearby restaurants. The sites have full hookups (water, sewer and electricity) and there is a password-entry restroom with showers.

Daniel Boone Campground has quite a few sites, with full hookups (water, sewer and electricity/50 amp), pull-through sites and big rig access, restrooms and showers, and access to a stream. There is a forest across the road that allows hunting.

Holly Bay Campground is heavily wooded and is surrounded on three sides by Laurel Lake. There is a shaded hiking trail that goes from the campground down to and around part of the lake. It has electricity, including 50 amp, and water, but doesn't have a sewer connection. It has big rig access but there aren't any pull-through sites.

As the sun begins to set and your stomach reminds you (in case you weren't paying attention) that the dinner hour has arrived, London offers a number of restaurants. The choice of cuisines is limited but should still be satisfactory to most people. Customers can choose from pizza and Mexican outlets, Cuban, Italian and American.
