Luling is a city in Caldwell County, Texas, although a small portion of the city resides in Guadalupe County. It was named after the New York banker who financed the land the city resides on as well as the construction of a railroad to the city. It was originally a railroad town but had a reputation for rowdiness due to the cowboys who brought their cattle to market on the Chisholm Trail. The rowdiness died off along with the cattle drives in the 1880s, and Luling's economy became based in cotton. The discovery of oil in the 1920s led to an economic and residential boom; by the 1930s and 1940s, the railroads had become less civically important and pulled out of Luling. Oil continued to dominate the city's economy until the 1980s.

Search for an RV in Caldwell County, and you will have your choice of units from a selection that is perfectly suited to the Texas environment. There are other towns and cities that are worth spending some time in while you're here. Lockhart is a popular shooting destination for Hollywood movies; some of the films that have been partially or fully shot here include What's Eating Gilbert Grape? (1993), A Perfect World (Kevin Costner and Clint Eastwood, 1993) and Second Hand Lions (2003). Bastrop was settled as early as 1804 when Spanish soldiers established a fort at the site and lived there temporarily. Flatonia is located one mile northwest of its original site; the original town was located on land that had been purchased by the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway. Gonzales was a center for education in Texas in the 19th century. Seguin was founded 16 months after the beginning of the Texas Revolution and is one of the oldest towns in Texas; it is also associated with the Texas Rangers. A Luling RV rental is how you can experience this region in comfort and style.

The Great Outdoors

Bastrop State Park is home to the Lost Pines, a stretch of forest that residents have celebrated for more than 70 years. There are miles of trails through the forest where visitors can marvel at the standing trees and the new growth that has resulted from forest fires. There is a small lake in the park where guests can fish from the shoreline (no license required from the shore); guests can also picnic or enjoy the park's swimming pool. There are also nature programs offered where visitors can learn about the vegetation and the wildlife.

McKinney Roughs Nature Park is a cultivated outdoor recreation area with a dual zip line structure allowing family and friends to soar together side by side. The park has additional activities such as ATV tours, hiking, and horseback riding. Kayaking and river rafting is also available, and there are lodges where guests can stay overnight.

Pedernales Falls State Park is a rustic semi-developed outdoor recreation area where guests can hike or mountain bike a series of trails that range in difficulty from easy to hard. The trails have scenic views and some wind around mountains and through valleys; cyclists can avail themselves of the pools to soak their feet while resting. Guests can also swim, wade, or tube in the park rivers but should be wary if conditions change, as flash floods occasionally happen. Keep your Luling RV trailer rental nearby and combine your outdoor activities with a hot lunch.
