The small city of Mauldin is located in Greenville County in the state of South Carolina almost midway between Charlotte and Atlanta. It gained its name from William Mauldin who was the state Governor in 1886 and had influenced railroad builders to take the route through the town rather than by-pass it.
The terrain in this part of South Carolina is mountainous with the Blue Ridge Mountains running through the northwest of the state. It also borders three National Forests of Pisgah, Nantahala and Chattahoochee. It’s a great area for the outdoor life and a wonderful area to explore when you book an RV in Greenville County.
On the western edge of the city, you’ll find Lake Conestee Nature Park. With twelve miles of trails passing through woodland, meadow and wetlands, it’s a great area for photography and hiking. Several wildlife observation decks have been built to get the perfect viewing spot and hopefully catch a glimpse of deer, beaver, fox or other wildlife in the park.
Linking Travelers Rest with Greenville is the Swamp Rabbit Trail, a 22-mile walking and cycling trail that follows an old railroad route along the Reedy River. The trail links many of Greenville’s thirty-something city parks and provides a great way to explore the local area. The trail will eventually link up with Lake Conestee Nature Park through a series of underpasses and overpasses.

Canoes, kayaks and pedal boats can be hired at the lakeside at the weekends.
