The Great Outdoors

Pick up your RV rental in Mayo and head to the Beverly Triton Nature Park, a scenic reserve that overlooks the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. There are around five miles of hiking trails to explore around the coastal reserve, with dogs welcome to join you. There’s also the option to go fishing at Beverly Lake, Deep Pond, and in the Chesapeake Bay, with a boat launch area along the park’s main entrance road.

Alternatively, you can head north to spend the day relaxing in Waterworks Park, a 500-acre green space that overlooks a lake near the Annapolis Mall. There are three freshwater fishing ponds where you can participate in catch and release fishing, as well as picnic pavilions that operate on a first come-first served basis. Discover the ecology and maritime history of the Chesapeake Bay at the Annapolis Maritime Museum and delve into the country’s naval history at the US Naval Academy Museum.

Just to the north of Annapolis is the town of Arnold and Boulters Way, which marks the start of the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail. Follow the route of the old Baltimore & Annapolis Railroad through rural landscapes and charming towns, ending at Cromwell Station in Glen Burnie. Interpretive signs along the route offer a fascinating insight into the communities that were linked to the railroad’s development, with old switch boxes and railroad tracks that will appeal to train enthusiasts.
