Menomonie is the county seat of Dunn County, Wisconsin; it is situated at the southern tip of Lake Menomin, a reservoir built on the Red Cedar River. The area was first settled in 1788 by a French-Canadian fur trapper and teacher, Jean Baptiste Perrault, who built a trading post-fort on the banks of the Red Cedar River very near where Menomonie is now located. This was followed by a timber mill where Menomonie now stands; it was the first permanent structure on the future city's land. The city was incorporated in 1882; in 1908, several pre-existing training programs were combined and managed by the newly formed Stout Institute, located in Menomonie and now known as the University of Wisconsin–Stout.

Book an RV in Dunn County, and you are one step closer to an epic vacation that only an RV rental can deliver. To make the most of your time in the area, there are other towns that you should visit at least once. Barron is home to Wallace Jerome, who innovated the turkey industry by developing a method for making mega-farms efficient and feasible. Eau Claire's city motto is “Voici l' eau claire” (French for “Here is [the] clear water”); it is believed to have been uttered by French explorers traveling down a very muddy Chippewa River before finding the Eau Claire River. Baldwin has a number of Dutch windmills within its boundaries; its motto is “Life is better in a small town.” Your Menomonie travel trailer rental is your invitation to visit this area and see it for yourself.

The Great Outdoors

Dunnville Barrens State Natural Area is a sandy terrace supporting a pine barren community of jack pine and black oak trees, scattered individually or in groves, with prairie grass areas. It was selected as a State Natural Area in 2010 and is managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The area is undisturbed, meaning there are no facilities such as toilets; public access is limited to fishing, hunting, and trapping with permits, and hiking and cross-country skiing in winter months. There are no designated hiking trails, although footpaths may be present, so a compass or GPS device is recommended. Keep your Menomonie RV trailer rental nearby, and you can enjoy the comforts of home before you have even left the area.

Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area is open to the public all year during daylight hours. It is a rolling hillside of tree stands and open fields with multiple hiking trails ranging from easy to difficult; the trails can be used for cross-country skiing in the winter. Benches are located intermittently, and there are picnic areas, restrooms, and potable water. The park has several scenic vistas and an observation tower.

Muddy Creek State Wildlife Area is a marsh and sedge meadow area following the course of Muddy Creek. Within the marsh there are “islands” of tree stands, prairie grass, and wetlands; visitors can note the variety of tree species including white pine, red and white oak, and aspen. Activities allowed within the park include fishing and hunting, birding and wildlife viewing, and much more. Hikers should note that there are no dedicated trails and should wear proper footwear.

RV Parks

There are a number of RV parks and campgrounds near Menomonie, and some of them may have mobile homes. Your Menomonie camper rental is your guarantee of a peaceful and relaxing vacation.

Twin Springs Resort Campground is a family-oriented RV park with multiple playgrounds for young kids and nature trails for the whole family. It has restrooms with showers, propane sales, and full hookups in the RV sites. Guests can make use of the swimming pool, on-site golf course, rent boats to go fishing or just boating, and much more. The park has scenic river views and could be a nice place to set up camp with the Menomonie campervan rental.

Exploring The City

Visitors exploring Menomonie should start with the Mabel Tainter Theater that was built in 1889. It is a Victorian-era theater with marble floors and stairs, stained glass windows, and an authentic pipe organ. A historic family home-turned-museum has exhibits explaining the history of the town and the family who owned the home. It has a gift shop, and visitors can wander at their leisure around the grounds which includes a lake. Another heritage museum has displays of antique cars which have all been restored beautifully, but it goes one step further with exhibits of local citizens who were important to the town's history, of the logging and university history, and more.

Once the day is done, thoughts turn to dinner and where to eat, and Menomonie has what you're looking for. One moderately priced pub restaurant has strong red walls and hardwood floors, creating a relaxing ambiance for diners who can choose between the dining room and the bar area. The menu is a list of traditional favorite American dishes with a fusion twist, and the restaurant makes its own spices which diners can purchase separately. Takeout is available, although guests should savor the atmosphere; have your leftovers wrapped up and take them home to your Menomonie luxury RV rental for a late-night snack, the perfect end to a perfect day.
