The peaceful town of Meridian is a hidden gem in the heart of Texas. It can be found approximately halfway between the state capital, Austin, and the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Although there are only a few thousand residents in the rural town, it serves as the county seat for all of Bosque County.

Bosque County was named by Spanish explorers for its dense forest groves, covering spectacular rolling hills; in fact, Bosque comes from the Spanish word for “wooded”, an accurate depiction of the region. Since it was first settled in the mid-19th century, Meridian has managed to retain its small-town charm. You can book an RV in Meridian and use the town as a home base of sorts when you set off on a dream road trip through one of the country’s largest states, exploring the farthest reaches of the Lone Star State if you have the time and energy to wander that far.

Experience the Sites and Scenery

Texas has a variety of fantastic natural areas and parks to explore when you rent an RV and look for adventure. If you feel like staying near town and having a quieter trip, however, you don't need to go far to find an excellent place to enjoy some rest & relaxation. Meridian State Park is minutes from town. It may be a small park, but there is a lot to do while you camp out on the shores of Meridian Lake in your Meridian camper rental. There are five miles of trails surrounding the small body of water and ample space to boat, swim, and go fishing in the lake itself. You can also go birdwatching in search of rare migratory birds, have a picnic on the water’s edge, or rent a kayak to travel across the lake.

Lake Whitney State Park is a much larger park on a much larger lake east of Meridian. Lake Whitney itself is home to several recreation areas and campgrounds, but Lake Whitney State Park is the most noteworthy. While you camp out in the wooded shorefront campgrounds in the comfort of your Meridian RV rental, you can fish for largemouth bass and catfish from the shore or use a boat to get to the middle of the massive manmade lake. Bicycle riding and hiking are excellent ways to see the park and geocaching is quite popular in the forests of the area too.

Dinosaur Valley State Park is a unique state park north of town and has been deemed a National Natural Landmark. The park is named for its rich natural history, especially with regards to a myriad of dinosaur fossils that have been uncovered within it. Mountain biking, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding are all welcomed at Dinosaur Valley State Park, but hunting for dinosaur tracks and fossils is by far the most fun you can have in the park. There are camping options for you to consider when you need a place to stay overnight in your Meridian RV rental by owner.

If you are up for an epic road trip through west Texas, Big Bend National Park is a sublime, once-in-a-lifetime experience with epic scenery overlooking the Rio Grande River. This massive park covers 800,000 acres of land on the Texas-Mexico border and is known for an impressive collection of dinosaur fossils, ancient archaeological sites dating back 10,000 years, and volcanic activity. Backcountry trekking is the ideal way to see the park in all its glory, and it is even a Dark-Sky certified park with heavenly views of the cosmos at nighttime. You’ll have no trouble figuring out where to camp with your Meridian camper rental in this remote desert park, so staying for an entire week is certainly an option.

Where to Park It

You’ll find there are a handful of campgrounds where you can stay with an RV rental near Meridian, including a few within the town itself. American Inn & RV Park has hotel rooms and spacious camping sites for larger recreational vehicles. This pet-friendly park is located in the heart of Meridian so all of its restaurants and stores are no more than a five-minute walk away.

Bosque Bottoms RV Park is also centrally located in town, just two blocks from the historic courthouse. There are recreational activities such as horseshoes for guests at the park, and a large covered stage and event center for rent for concerts, reunions, fundraisers, and a variety of other events.

Meridian State Park is another option. You will find serene camping spots along the water to collect your thoughts and get the most out of your central Texas vacation. There are countless other places to stay if you drive a bit farther out, especially near Lake Whitney and other large reservoirs to the east.

City Attractions

Meridian isn’t the most lively or exciting town to find yourself in on vacation, but that’s to be expected when you rent an RV in the fabulous countryside of Texas. There are a few restaurants to dine at, shops to purchase camping supplies and food, and several historic buildings from the town’s illustrious past.

The Bosque County Courthouse is located in the heart of Meridian because it is the county seat, and it is truly a sight to behold. This architectural masterpiece has Gothic towers and elegant masonry with no flaw in sight. Courthouses were, at one time, the pride of the county, and surely the Bosque County Courthouse is one of the most impressive in all of Texas. If you would like to learn about Bosque County, the Bosque Museum is located south of town in Clifton. The museum is refreshing and small and packed with decades of information. There are exhibits concerning the ancient ancestors that once lived in Bosque County thousands of years ago, as well as a fascinating collection of World War I information.
