The little town of Minturn sits in a stunningly beautiful canyon along the Eagle River not far from some of Colorado’s most popular ski resorts, including Vail, Beaver Creek, and Copper Mountain. Each of these resorts has some great some activities, so no matter what time of year you visit, you’ll want to book an RV in Minturn for easy access to some great outdoor recreation. In addition to the resorts though, Minturn is a really fun town for travelers looking to get off the beaten path. There are plenty of great shops, restaurants, and attractions nearby so be sure you block off lots of time to explore the area.

Minturn is also just off Interstate 70, which crosses the Rocky Mountains and enters the state capital of Denver just 100 miles away. When you have a motorhome rental in Minturn and decide to venture into the city, it’s best to park on its outskirts and use public transportation to get around as Denver’s rapidly expanding population has led to some serious traffic gridlock.

The Great Outdoors

Head off in any direction when you rent an RV here and you’re sure to find something exciting to do outside. Ski resorts surround the town, so you always have the option of going for a great hike near one of them during the summer. Beaver Creek is the closest one, less than 10 miles from Minturn. In the winter, this resort offers extensive terrain for all levels, with night skiing offered occasionally too. Most importantly, they serve freshly baked cookies every day at their Cookie Time, a beloved tradition.

Another option is Meadow Mountain, a ski resort that was never fully developed, which draws hikers in the summer and snowshoers and backcountry skiers in the winter. The trail isn’t too steep in most sections, but there’s not much shade, so go early in the day for summer hikes. You can also ride the scenic gondola at Vail Resort during the summer months for some amazing views of the Rocky Mountains.

For something a little closer when you choose a travel trailer rental in Minturn there’s Little Beach Park, a small park that sits along the Eagle River right in town. There’s easy river access for boating and fishing, a playground, picnic areas, and nearby hiking trails. Concerts and other events are sometimes held at the park’s amphitheater.

RV Parks near Minturn

Despite the high-end resorts nearby, most of the places to set up camp with an RV rental near Minturn are fairly undeveloped. The Halfmoon Campground has a few sites and is one of the closest campgrounds to Minturn. However, its amenities are limited and include primitive toilets. Another option is the Hornsilver Campground, also close by, which has vault toilets. Gold Park Campground, just a short drive away from Minturn, has similar amenities and is located along Homestake Creek.

For a full-service RV park experience, you may need to head over towards to the River Dance RV Resort, a little way to the west. Sites have water and power, but no sewer hookups (though there’s a dump station nearby). There are also showers and drinking water available. The Leadville RV Corral, which has many long-term residents staying in tiny houses, is also open for RV camping. Sites have Wi-Fi and hookups and are close to some good restaurants and shopping in Leadville.

You could also try camping at the Walmart in Avon, just outside of Vail. You’ll need to get manager permission before settling down, but this could be a good option if you’re only staying a couple of nights, and it’s conveniently located right off Interstate 70.

Exploring the Town of Minturn

The area surrounding the town is full of all types of great mountain attractions that can be visited during both the summer and winter months when you get a camper rental in Minturn. However, if you’re visiting Colorado, there’s a good chance you’re a fan of snow sports. And in that case, the Colorado Snowsports Museum in nearby Vail is a must-see. It houses a theater and a number of interactive exhibits covering topics related to Colorado history and the history of snow sports.

Another nearby museum, Walking Mountains, is just a few miles away in Avon and aims to teach visitors about wildlife and the environment. It offers a wide range of events and programs for all ages, including popular guided walks led by a local naturalist.

If you would like to do some souvenir shopping though, just head to Minturn’s historic downtown area. It’s home to several galleries and antique shops that are interesting to browse, as well as a farmers market in the summer. For excellent restaurants, just start driving towards any of the nearby ski resorts. Most of them have excellent menus, some of which are geared to the fine dining and après ski crowd, but there’s enough variety to fit anyone’s budget.
