In the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania, New Tripoli is a small town on the banks of School Creek. It was named after Tripoli in Libya to commemorate the fighting that took place in the Barbary Wars during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Today, it’s home to a picturesque park that’s been re-invigorated with historic buildings that hark back to the town’s early 20th-century glory days. Its proximity to fishing lakes and wineries makes it an idyllic locale to rent an RV and discover everything the Lehigh Valley has to offer.

Discover New Tripoli

The Great Outdoors

Pick up your motorhome rental in New Tripoli and drive west to the Leaser Lake Park, which centers around a human-made lake that’s well stocked with fish. Test your luck at catching largemouth bass, yellow perch, and rainbow trout from the shores, or hit the water to go boating or kayaking. The boat launch ramp is located in the north part of the park, with an island perched in the center of the lake.

Or, head north to the Beltzville State Park, which centers around the Beltzville Dam on Pohopoco Creek and is another popular local fishing destination. Cast a line to lure striped bass, walleye, and perch, or just enjoy a dip from the sandy swimming beach. The park is also home to white-tailed deer, squirrels, and groundhogs, with around 14 miles of hiking trails that lead through the wooded landscape to the remains of an old gristmill and an abandoned slate quarry.

If you’re traveling with kids, make a point of visiting the Lehigh Valley Zoo, which is situated within the 1,100-acre Trexler Nature Preserve in Schnecksville. It’s home to a variety of species from across the globe, including kangaroos, bobcats, and penguins, while offering a range of interactive experiences. Come face-to-face with towering Masai giraffes, alpacas, and Nubian goats, as well as emerald tree boas, emus, and Mexican gray wolves.

There are a large swimming pool and a creek running through the property where you’re welcome to fish, as well as a camp store where you can pick up any necessities.

Exploring the City

Park your RV rental near New Tripoli and stroll through Ontelaunee Park, which sprawls on the western edge of the town center. If you’re traveling with kids, don’t miss a visit to Dorney Park, which is packed with rollercoasters, family-friendly rides, and waterslides.

If you’re a wine lover, spend a day touring the family-owned vineyards that dot the Lehigh Valley. Chambourcin is the region’s signature grape, with numerous cellar doors where you can sample the finished product while soaking up the sweeping viticultural views.
