A bit deceptive in its name, North Highlands is a low-elevation suburb in the Sacramento, California area. Smack dab in the north-central portion of California, you can’t go wrong if you book a camper rental in North Highlands and then venture out. Of course, should you want to stay local, there is much to do in the area — museums galore, historic cities, and plenty of green spaces are all waiting for you. Then, there’s Sacramento — the capital of The Golden State. You could stay for years and still not experience everything this sprawling metropolis has to offer.

But California is a grand state with much to see, and we don’t blame you for wanting to go out and explore. And, frankly, you couldn’t have picked a better spot to book a travel trailer rental. North Highlands is a short drive from the spectacular Yosemite National Park. You could also check out Lassen Volcanic National Park — it's not too far away. Though not as well-known as Yosemite, this spectacular place is home to boiling springs, steaming sulfur vents, and splattering mud pots.

The Great Outdoors

Wanting to spend some time outdoors with the North Highlands RV rental? Pay a visit to William Land Regional Park. Over 166.5 developed acres in the city of Sacramento include a basketball court, golf course, a jogging path, lakes, a rock garden, soccer fields, wading pool, and picnic areas. William Land Regional Park is also home to popular attractions like the Sacramento Zoo, Fairytale Town, and Funderland.

Sometimes parks in the middle of the city can be a bit overcrowded and don’t really provide that solitude and nature experience that you may be after. However, at Effie Yeaw Sacramento Nature Center, you can have just that. Effie Yeaw is just a short drive outside of North Highlands in Carmichael. The 100-acre nature preserve that runs along the American River has a few gardens featuring native and non-native plants. Several easy walking trails run along the property. On the trail, you will see interpretive signs providing information about the natural history of the lower American River and habitats along its banks. Wildlife lovers can also come and enjoy viewing the jackrabbits, deer, squirrel, coyotes, wild turkeys, snakes, owls, hawks, and a variety of other animals that either live or use the nature preserve.

And you can’t visit the Sacramento area without taking a stroll down the American River Bicycle Trail. Also known as the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail, the trail runs along the shores of the American River from Sacramento to Beal's Point on Folsom Lake. Go for a casual stroll, a nice jog, or rent a bike and make your way down this iconic Sacramento landmark.
