The town of Ocean Park sits on the scenic Long Beach Peninsula in southwestern Washington, just north of the Oregon border. It’s about 180 miles from Seattle and just over a two-hour drive from both the state capital of Olympia and the city of Portland, Oregon.

The town is a popular getaway during the summer months as it offers beautiful, relatively uncrowded beaches, quaint small-town living, and great weather. If you’re someone who enjoys temperate climates, delicious seafood, and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Ocean Park could be a great place to rent an RV.

The Pacific Transit System runs buses between Ocean Park and the nearby communities, including Aberdeen, Chinook, and Astoria, Oregon. A bus plies the Long Beach Peninsula between Oysterville and Ilwaco, with pickups every 45-90 minutes on weekdays and every two hours or so on Saturdays (no Sunday service). This is a great way to explore the area without needing to drive and find parking for your Ocean Park RV rental.

RV Parks Near Ocean Park

While Ocean Park sits on a rather narrow peninsula, its popularity as a summer vacation destination means that it also has quite a few RV parks nearby. Ocean Park Resort is the closest to town, just minutes from downtown. From here, you can walk to some of the nearby attractions, and the park also has coin-op showers, laundry facilities, and a rec room with pool tables and ping-pong.  Oyster Beach RV Resort is also close by and has facilities available for cleaning your catch of the day (fish or clam) and is just steps from the beach and a grocery store.

Another option is the Westgate Cabins and RV Park, a few miles to the south. Sites have full hookups along with a rec room and kitchen, so you have some space to relax and cook meals if you don’t want to be cooped up in your rental. Be sure to stock up on supplies for the motorhome rental in Ocean Park, as the peninsula has a dearth of stores should you run low on the necessities.

Exploring the City of Ocean Park

When you book an RV in Ocean Park, you’ll probably spend most of your days lazing around at the beach, soaking in the summer sunshine, and collecting as many delicious clams as your pail will hold. However, there’s also quite a bit to do in this charming little town when you do finally feel like venturing away from the beach.

When you need something to remember your travels by, you’ll find a couple shops with locally made items, and, at a local coffee and sweet shop, you can find tasty treats to bring back to the Ocean Park rental camper. If you’re into antiquing, you should be nab some quality finds at the antique shop in town, offering tons of vintage and hard to find knick-knacks that would make great gifts for friends and family upon your return.

There’s also the cranberry museum in the town of Long Beach, a fifteen-minute drive to the south. The museum is not very big, but offers an interesting look at the area’s history as it pertains to cranberries. There’s even cranberry ice cream available – a delicious treat on a hot day.

Getting Outside Near Ocean Park

While the beach is the most obvious place to go with your Ocean Park travel trailer rental or RV, there are also some great state parks, golf courses, and even a national park relatively close by.

Leadbetter Point State Park is one of the most popular places to get out and enjoy nature. It’s about 10 miles north of Ocean Park and encompasses much of the northern end of the Long Beach Peninsula.  It has a variety of hiking trails, bird-watching opportunities, and of course, expansive beaches to lounge on. Another option is Cape Disappointment State Park, about 15 miles to the south. Despite the name, the park is anything but a disappointment, with two miles of water frontage, two lighthouses, and tons of old growth forest to explore. When you feel like hitting up the golf course, you’ll find a nice little nine-hole course on the northern part of town.

If you’re interested in taking your Ocean Park motorhome rental on a longer adventure, Olympic National Park is only about a three-hour drive to the north of the city. It’s one of the most unique national parks, combining one of America’s only temperate rainforests in its western section with soaring alpine peaks in its northern reaches. With over 600 miles of trail, you’re sure to find a trail that suits your fitness level and interests.
