The beauty of going to Otto is that no matter the time of year, you are bound to see some jaw-dropping scenery. The spirit of nature is deeply ingrained into the Appalachian region’s culture, and when you rent an RV in Otto, you will surely feel the woods beckoning. Oconee State Park may be over the be over the border in South Carolina, but you won’t be disappointed making the drive. The park has two large lakes for swimming, boating, and fishing, and there are campsites you can use overnight. Hiking trails, picnic facilities, and several historical landmarks can be found in the old park created back in the Great Depression. Devil's Fork State Park is another South Carolina park nearby that warrants a visit or two. On the edge of the Sumter National Forest, Devils Fork State Park enjoys scenic views of Lake Jocassee, a massive lake popular in the summertime for its recreation possibilities. Hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming are great ways to utilize the park, and you can even scuba dive to the bottom of the lake to see the remnants of an old town that was abandoned after the artificial lake was completed. The rare Oconee Bell flower grows abundantly in this charming lakeside park, and there are several amazing waterfalls to see.

Otto is practically encapsulated by the Nantahala National Forest, and is one of the nearest natural areas to reach when you rent an RV in Otto. The options are truly endless when it comes to exploring the half-million-acre woodland area. The forest is named for a Cherokee word that means “Land of the Noonday Sun” because it is said that the dense forest canopy only lets in sunlight when it is directly overhead. There are several wilderness areas, long distance trekking trails, campgrounds, and swaths of old-growth forest waiting for you in the Nantahala National Forest.

Believe it or not, one of the country’s most popular national parks is within close range to Otto, so bringing your Otto motorhome rental to Great Smoky Mountains National Park is an exceptional idea. The park is among the most visited in the nation, with around eleven million visitors each year. Large portions of the legendary Appalachian Trail carve through the park, with awe-inspiring views of the mountainous forest all around. A massive observation tower hovers over the park offering unbeatable views of the fall foliage and the ancient mountains of Tennessee.

What Otto lacks in city attractions, it surely makes up for in ease of access to the great outdoors, as well as an abundance of campgrounds to choose from. City Sightseeing

Otto might not have a whole lot going on in the actual town itself, but when you rent an RV, you have the freedom to go where you please. Most of the interesting attractions can be found in the nearby town of Franklin, which serves as a sort of regional hub. Macon County Historical Museum is an old dry goods store that has been transformed into a headquarters for Macon County historical studies. You can learn all about the formation of the county, the native peoples that once called the area home, and take a step back in time viewing amazing artifacts and antiques. Foxfire Museum is another institution dedicated to preserving history. There are old log cabins full of memorabilia and antiquated items on display, helping to paint an eerily accurate portrait of the Appalachian culture.

The Franklin Gem and Mineral Museum pays tribute to the region’s heavy involvement in the mining and minerals industry. There are minerals, rocks, native indigenous artifacts, dinosaur fossils, and much more on display in the small museum housed in an old jailhouse.

As a bonus, check out the Scottish Tartans Museum, a wonderful facility paying homage to the proud Scottish heritage of many of the local people. There are plenty of traditional Scottish artifacts and clothing proudly featured in the museum where people can learn lots about this fascinating country.
