The city of Palm Harbor, Florida is found north of St. Petersburg, and west of Tampa on the Gulf Coast. This pleasant town was at one time called Sutherland, a shortening of Southern Land and Development Company. The community was settled back in the 19th century, but would not inherit its current name until 1925.

The name Palm Harbor has a welcoming feel to it, adequately conveying the essence of the charming little city on the water. Palm Harbor is mostly a residential area, with some wonderful shopping areas peppered into the mix. Downtown Palm Harbor is full of lush parks, historic buildings lining the streets, and a bevy of restaurants and trendy boutiques. When you book an RV in Palm Harbor, you are always welcome to check out the two larger cities in the bay area, or head north on US-19 to explore the coast in search of your own private beach.

The town is known to host frequent fun events like the First Friday Celebration held on the first Friday of each month, and the Taste of Palm Harbor Festival which promotes local businesses and gives the town reason to enjoy some festivities. There is a great deal of potential in Palm Harbor to tailor your vacation to your needs, making it an exceptional place to rent an RV.

Discover Palm Harbor

Experience the Sites and Scenery

Florida is an amazing place to take a vacation, with thousands of miles of incredible coastline and arguably some of the world’s nicest beaches. When you rent an RV in Palm Harbor, there are several parks and recreation areas to explore in the immediate vicinity. Caladesi Island State Park is an incredible park off the coast of Florida on one of its many barrier islands. This island is only reachable by boat, so you can take a day visit after you park your Palm Harbor RV rental at a campground of your choice on the mainland. The island park has miles of picturesque walking trails, a marina, a magnificent beach with its own concession stand, and much more. Fishing off the boardwalk, swimming, surfing, or snorkeling are fun ways to enjoy the crystal-clear water of Florida too. Honeymoon Island State Park is connected to the mainland via a causeway, so you can actually drive your Palm Harbor camper rental to visit the park if you want to. The park welcomes over a million people each year, making it easily one of the most visited parks in the state. The park is known for its wealth of natural wildlife, like wild ospreys protecting their young, or pods of dolphins cruising by the island. Snorkeling is a great way to see some tropical fish and exotic coral reef, and don’t forget the park has one of the nicest beaches in the country. There is a nature center that has lots of information about the park’s ecosystem if you are interested in learning a thing or two.

Myakka River State Park is found farther to the south on Interstate 75, full of dense conifer forests and rolling prairies. When you visit this large state park in southern Florida in your Palm Harbor camper rental, there is lots to do and see, particularly if you love wildlife. There are countless species of amphibians, fish, reptiles, small mammals, and, of course, birds throughout the forest. You can hike one of many trails circling the park, including a suspension bridge that lets visitors walk above the canopy of the forest, and a boardwalk that juts out into the river. Biking, horseback riding, and camping at one of the campgrounds are common at Myakka River State Park too.

If you don’t want to leave Florida without seeing one of its national parks, Everglades National Park is in one of the southernmost parts of Florida, only a few hours’ drive away in your Palm Harbor motorhome rental. The park is one of the largest in the country and attracts well over a million people per year. Rich cypress mangroves, impassable swamps, and coniferous forests blanket the park, with more endemic wildlife than you could possibly imagine. You can camp out at this national treasure in your Palm Harbor RV rental at one of its many campgrounds if need be.

Where to Park It

When you rent an RV in Palm Harbor, lots of campgrounds and RV parks await you. Florida has pleasant sunny weather year-round so it has made a name for itself as a recreational vehicle paradise. Bay Aire RV Park has great views of nature, spacious campsites, and a cozy feel that will make you feel at ease. Caladesi RV Park is less than five minutes' drive from the beach and right in the middle of the city center. You can find everything you need with a short walk from this RV campground.

Sherwood Forest RV Resort has a pool much like most of the RV parks in the area, as well as a scenic lake and a pavilion. Clearwater/Lake Tarpon KOA is a campground with several types of RV camping sites, an in-ground pool, and a dog park to keep your pets happy.

City Attractions

When you visit any coastal Florida town, no attraction will ever beat the pristine beaches in the Sunshine State, known the world around for their beauty. But if you want to take a break from the sun, you can make your way to several local destinations that can inject excitement into your vacation. Pier 60 in Clearwater is a lovely place to visit, especially at sunset or at night time when it comes to life. Delicious food, a myriad of vendors selling art or other trinkets, and live entertainment are some of the reasons you might want to check out this amazing pier. Clearwater Marine Aquarium is dedicated to restoring and preserving the marine environment. Guests can watch wild animals being rehabilitated at the center and there is a great gift shop for souvenirs.

Replay Amusement Museum is a wonderful flashback to the past when arcades were found in nearly every town. This arcade/museum has lots of old pinball machines and video games from decades ago and some rare collectible games on display. The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art is located on the campus of St. Petersburg College and features a massive collection of contemporary art on display. Knowledgeable docents give informative tours and the exhibits are constantly changing to keep it fresh.
