Pleasant Grove is an unincorporated community that was originally nicknamed Gouge Eye. There are a few versions of how the nickname was earned; some say it was during a bar fight, others imply that criminals used to spread rumors about a local businessman “gouging” customers on prices. It is located in Sutter County, California. It began as a freight stop and a passenger carriage stop near the Pleasant Grove Creek post office which opened in 1867. The post office shortened its name to Pleasant Grove in 1875 and was moved to its current location in 1940.

Search for an RV in Sutter County and you are one step closer to a vacation that will take you anywhere you can imagine. There are a few other cities that might be of interest to visitors. Yuba City has a dried fruit processing plant which is said to be the biggest in the world. Placerville has an old retired gold mine, built in 1888, which is now a guided tourist attraction. Two Dixon residents set a Guinness World Record for the “largest corn/crop maze”, then broke their own record in 2012 and again in 2014. The city of Winters calls itself “The essence of Yolo County” and “the gateway to Napa Valley”. Guinda means “Morello cherry” in Spanish; the town was named after a cherry tree by the Southern Pacific Railroad. Your Pleasant Grove camper rental is how you will see these and other places as you explore the countryside.

Discover Pleasant Grove

The Great Outdoors

Sutter National Wildlife Refuge is mostly made up of wetlands, although some sections are grassland or riparian habitat. It is part of the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex and managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. It was established in 1945 to provide feeding and nesting grounds for birds migrating north or south seasonally. Visitors to the park can enjoy hiking trails in the spring and summer, bird watch, and take photographs. Hunting is allowed seasonally for waterfowl and pheasant.

Lake of the Woods State Wildlife Area is a popular destination for hiking and swimming; camping is also allowed. Visitors can enjoy the valley oak and cottonwood tree stands that dominate the park or try to spot the animal residents, such as coyotes, squirrels, and river otters. Keep your Pleasant Grove motorhome rental nearby to use as a photography blind or, better yet, snap a few pictures with your home-on-wheels in the foreground to show everyone back home.

Eldorado National Forest is a planned outdoor recreational area combining habitat and wildlife protection with public need. Visitors to the area can hike and bike in the summer, or cross-country or downhill ski in the winter.

Your Pleasant Grove travel trailer rental is perfectly suited to any of these destinations, combining with them to create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.

Ghost Mountain RV Campground is a modern RV resort with a stocked fishing pond, a swimming pool, and extensive hiking trails. It was built by Paramount Pictures and was at one time the set for the tv series “The Virginian”. It is nestled amongst tall pine trees in the Sierra Mountains, offering plenty of shade, and it is child and pet-friendly.

One of the best parts of any vacation is being able to do whatever you want without feeling pressured, and there is often nothing better than a home-cooked meal prepared the way you like it. Throw out the lawn chairs and relish your meal under the California sun; everyone should be this lucky.
