Shiocton was founded in 1850 and was originally called Jordanville or Jordan’s Landing, after Woodford D. Jordan, one of the first European settlers. The name Shiocton came later, and the city was incorporated in 1903. This area was known as Menominee when Native Americans lived here, but they moved as the European settlers arrived. The Great Outdoors

One of the closest natural areas to explore with the Shiocton RV rental is Barker Park, located just a short drive south of the town. This 27-acre park has a boat ramp on the Wolf River, along with fishing docks which are wheelchair accessible, and a picnic area, where you can spend a great time with your family. This park is perfect if you don’t want to drive far for a day of boating, fishing, and picnicking.

Mack Wildlife Area is a short drive east with your RV rental from Shiocton. This 1,350-acre park used to be a glacier lakebed. The terrain is mostly marsh, aspen, swamp hardwoods, old fields, and lowland brush. Here you can go hunting, trapping, and enjoy other outdoor recreational activities. You can also have a picnic, do some bird watching, go cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing, or gather wild edibles.

Hortonville Bog State Natural Area is located approximately ten minutes’ drive southwest of Shiocton. It covers around 1,300 acres of tamarack and white cedar forest and an open bog with a very deep sphagnum layer. This is a great place for birdwatching, and here you can spot winter wrens, Canada warblers, Nashville warblers, white-throated sparrows, sharp-shinned hawks, northern waterthrush, and Lincoln's sparrows. Aside from birdwatching, you can go hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, and cross-country skiing.

Fremont Jellystone Park is located by Partridge Lake, approximately half an hour’s drive southwest when you rent a travel trailer in Shiocton. This park is nestled on the shore and offers great views and beautiful beaches close by. Enjoy water sports here, like swimming, water skiing, fishing, and boating. The park offers children’s programs, ceramics, mini golf, ice cream socials, a water slide, bocce ball, soccer field, movie theater, three parks, snowmobiling, and so much more. Wolf River Campground is located on the shore of the Little Wolf River and near the Mukwa State Wildlife Area. Enjoy scenic views and relaxing nature, while picnicking, fishing, and enjoying water activities. From the campground, you can embark on tubing, canoeing, or kayaking tours of the river. This family and dog-friendly campground offers sites with full hookups, and there are showers and restrooms too. There is a beach for swimming, and other recreational activities include volleyball and horseshoes.

Huckleberry Acres is a campground with a bar-restaurant and is surrounded by ponds, streams, and lakes. In this beautiful natural setting, you will find a camp store, a swimming and fishing pond, an arcade and mini-golf course, playground, beach, and tiki bar. Enjoy all kinds of events and activities organized here for kids and adults, like a Father’s Day Celebration, water volleyball, sandcastle building, and much more.

Exploring the City

One of the biggest advantages of renting an RV in Shiocton is that all the attractions of the area are less than an hour’s drive away.
