Sun City is located in Hillsborough County, Florida. It began as “Ross” during the real estate boom of the 1920s, but its name was changed to Sun City in the hopes of building a pseudo-Hollywood venue and suburban neighborhood. A movie studio was built followed by a power plant to supply the studio and streets were named after celebrities in the movie industry. The flood of prospective homebuyers never happened though and in 1932, when the real estate market (and most other markets) collapsed, the plan was abandoned and the movie studio destroyed. The power plant equipment was sold but the building itself still remains today, along with the street signs and one building, Jones Place, that served as a gas station, grocery store, and post office (it was built in 1928). Aside from a few trailers, the community is a ghost town but one with a significant history.

Book an RV in Hillsborough County and you are ready to explore a part of Florida filled with history. There are other towns that are also worth exploring and spending a few hours in. Riverview is the site of an antenna farm that broadcasts most of the radio and tv stations in the Tampa Bay area. Palmetto is named after a grove of trees near the original town center. Sarasota has been a cultural mecca since the building of a theater in 1925 that could be used for both vaudeville and stage shows, and cinematic movie screenings. St. Petersburg is where the Salvador Dali Museum is located; the museum hosts the largest collection of Dali's work outside of Spain. Clearwater hosts social events in music, sports, cinema, and much more, all year long (visitors have a good chance of attending at least one event if they plan their visit). Your motorhome rental from Sun City is all you need to take in these things and much more.

There is a lot to see and do in and around Sun City, starting with a very familiar wax museum. But it doesn't end there; those who relish the nightlife can take a dinner cruise or even a casino cruise around the Bay area. The casino cruise tickets include lunch or dinner, drinks, and slot machine credits (there are also live gaming tables). Children have a museum of their very own, focusing on the things that they like. There are numerous golf courses, theater and shows, concerts and sporting events, and more. Your choice of dining establishments is just as varied and interesting. One tavern restaurant specializes in German and European food; it has an extensive menu and a good selection of beer brands. The ingredients are fresh and the meals authentic. Portions are large, so don't be embarrassed about asking to take your leftovers home to your camper rental near Sun City; nothing spells vacation like good food enjoyed as snacks while relaxing in a lawn chair under an open sky.
