Between the cities of Ann Arbor and Detroit, is the small town of Taylor, MI. Taylor belongs to the unofficial Downriver Community which consists of 18 towns south of Detroit. This delightful suburb of Detroit is an adequate depiction of how lovely Michigan can be.

Named for President Zachary Taylor, the 12th President of the United States, Taylor was organized as a township in 1847 and later voted to become an incorporated city in 1968. Shopping centers, serene gardens, and beautiful public parks are all common features in Taylor, an old factory town that has since been revitalized to expand an ever-growing tourism industry. Interstates 94 and 75 ensure that getting to town and around Michigan is incredibly easy when you book an RV in Taylor, and there are definitely many reasons to see the Great Lake State in all of its glory.

Experience the Sites and Scenery

There are quite a few public parks in Taylor, so you can enjoy these outdoor spaces right from the get-go when you arrive in town. Heritage Park is the most noteworthy park in Taylor, with nearly everything you could hope for in an outdoor city space. A delightful fishing pond sits in the center of the park, complete with a wedding chapel and a covered bridge spanning the water. A small dock juts into the water, giving anglers a space to catch some fish. A petting zoo, sports field complex, picnic area, walking trails, and even some historic buildings make the park a fun place to spend the day.

When you rent an RV in Taylor, there are numerous parks, forests, and recreation areas near and far that you can visit. Belle Island and Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge both sit in the middle of the Detroit River. These incredible islands are loaded with native wildlife shielded from the metro areas. Belle Island Park is known for its aquarium, conservatory, music events, nature center, and Dossin Great Lakes Museum.

Picknickey State Recreation Area and Waterloo State Recreation Area are both about an hour to the west on the other side of Ann Arbor, and both are great options for camping overnight in your Taylor RV rental. Hunting, fishing, swimming, and hiking are all popular activities amidst the wooded groves and gentle rolling streams. Sleeper State Park and Port Crescent State Park can be found to the northern tip of Michigan’s “thumb”, on the shores of Lake Huron. These amazing parks provide breathtaking views of the lake and ample space for camping; the dark skies at night are incredible for stargazing due to the lack of light pollution.

Visit Huron-Manistee National Forest or Hiawatha National Forest in northern Michigan for some epic wilderness trekking, or camping in your Taylor rental RV. Isle Royale National Park is a hidden gem that is is only accessible by boat; that being said, it is a once in a lifetime chance to see the frontier along the Canadian border, undisturbed and undeveloped.

City Attractions

Taylor is not necessarily known for its abundance of attractions, but visitors will find there are still some fun things to do while in town. The Southland Center Mall is the main shopping area in town, full of local restaurants and well-known retail outlets. Midway Sports & Entertainment is great for those traveling with children or families, as it offers lots of fun activities such as go-karts, rock climbing walls, bumper cars, batting cages, mini golf, and driving ranges. Heritage Park, mentioned before, is a lovely attraction with several historic buildings like the one-room schoolhouse, the log cabin, and the Taylor Historical Museum. Lots can be learned about Taylor through the historical photographs and artifacts housed inside the museum, and the souvenir gift shop is great for buying gifts for loved ones. The Taylor Conservatory & Botanical Gardens is a magical space fostering a love of the outdoors, art, and music. Art shows and music events are constantly being held on the garden grounds inside the many gazebos and odd structures within.
