Troutman, North Carolina, is a small city, 5.4 square miles in size, and a part of Iredell County. It was incorporated in 1905. On the surface, Troutman may not seem to be very much. It's most distinct feature is that highway US-21 passes through the middle of town, dividing the town in half. Look closer, though, and you will see a smaller, tightly knit community that prides itself on civic duty.

The town of Troutman, NC, knows how to have fun and celebrate their community; the list of annual activities and celebrations is a long one, including three road races (a 5K, 10K and fun run in March, a second 5K run in October and a third 5K and fun run in December), a national “night out” (crime prevention block party), an Independence Day parade, festival and fireworks display, and more. Travelers visiting this little town could park their Troutman luxury RV rental close to the festivities, and certainly join in on the fun.

When you book an RV in Troutman, you’ll be in reasonably close proximity to big cities like Raleigh, Murphy and Charlotte.

Discover Troutman

The Great Outdoors

East of Troutman is a very popular zoo and petting park, with zebras, giraffes, big cats, monkeys and more. Visitors are allowed to pet most of the animals and are helped by staff to feed the tigers (a small piece of meat at the end of a very long pole). Reviewers of this attraction described it as an all-day event and something they would visit again. There is an on-site cantina but guests could keep their Troutman rental RV nearby and enjoy a nice homemade lunch at their own leisure.

To the west of Troutman is Lake Norman and Lake Norman State Park. The park offers fishing, boating, hiking and more, and there is camping space available where you could set up camp with your Troutman travel trailer rental and make the entire park your playground. Lake Norman is a man-made lake but you wouldn't know it from the panoramic view. Elevated boardwalks form trails through the park and extend out over the water, allowing participants to get even closer to nature. Beaches here are sandy and comfortable; the swimming areas are cordoned off with buoys to prevent accidents between swimmers and boat traffic out on the lake. Keep your Troutman camper rental nearby to make changing into and out of swim clothes simple and hassle-free. Sailing is a popular activity on the lake, which has its own well-used marina.

Troutman is also home to vineyards and some local craft breweries, a selection of museums and two kart racing tracks. NASCAR is huge here and people like their racing; there’s no better time or place to get behind the wheel and see if you have what it takes.

RV Parks

In addition to Lake Norman State Park, the Real McCoy Family Campground is east of I-77 and south of US-70. At the south end of Lake Norman, you will find Ramsey Creek Park (head south on I-77 and watch for signs). Closer to Charlotte, NC, you will find Elmore RV Park, Glenwood Acres RV Park and Apollo RV Park.

For supply runs and pit stops for the motorhome rental near Troutman, there is a Walmart about 10 miles to the south, and there are multiple gas stations in and around town, too.

Exploring The City

Children are definitely the center of attention here in Troutman but that should come as no surprise. From theme parks to an inflatable indoor center (think houses and mazes built out of balloons), Troutman has it all. For that oh, so necessary calming down period you know they're going to need, the city has its share of museums that will make learning fun and a hands-on activity. Be sure to bring some souvenirs back to your Troutman rental motorhome for the kids to continue working on for times when the day is done but it’s not quite bedtime yet.

At some point, food will become the prize and Troutman doesn't lack for restaurants. Lake Norman has its own food outlets right on the beach, but back in the city, tourists can choose from any of the mainstream cuisines, including Chinese, Japanese, vegetarian, southern food, deli, and the list goes on. There are the requisite chain restaurants that know how to please kids, and eateries for the adult children as well. Troutman is home to some well-run pub restaurants, too.
