Previously known as Bridge’s Plantation, Town of Kingsville, and Joy, the town of Troy finally settled on its latest name back in 1826. This vibrant community between Bangor and Augusta is one of Maine’s best-kept secrets. Only about a thousand people call this idyllic New England town home, so larger cities and resort towns in the area are chosen more often as vacation destinations.

When you book an RV in Troy, there are plenty of places, things, and activities to keep you occupied throughout the duration of your trip. The town is several miles from Interstate 95, so driving north to the Canadian border or south to the city of Portland are both exciting possibilities when you rent an RV in Troy. Even without the splendid evergreen forests of Maine and the many state parks that accompany them, Troy is a solid place to travel due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean alone. The rugged coasts of Maine are divine, with magnificent views, uninhabited islands, and historic lighthouses. Start planning your Maine vacation now; there is nothing but fun awaiting you in Troy.

Discover Troy

The Great Outdoors

It is quite easy to find a quiet slice of nature where you can park your Troy camper rental and indulge in the tranquil vibes of Maine’s wilderness. Over half the state is covered in forested land, so camping and hiking are two of the most popular activities in the state. Mount Blue State Park is a good place to start, containing the eponymous Mount Blue and the lovely Webb Lake. There are swimming and fishing areas on the shores of the lake, boating areas, hunting grounds, a nature center where you can learn about the local environment, and a campground.

Baxter State Park is a massive recreation area north of town, featuring 200,000 acres of pristine wilderness. This incredible state park is larger than some of the country's national parks, a truly remote place to lose yourself and reconnect with nature. The park is named for Mount Baxter, the northern terminus of the famous Appalachian Trail, a 2,000-mile hiking path stretching between Georgia and Maine. Hunting, trapping, and fishing are all allowed in certain areas within the park, and camping out in your Troy motorhome rental is a possibility too if you need a place to stay.

Down on the coast, you can enjoy some stellar views at places like Camden Hills State Park, overlooking the Atlantic and the jaw-dropping sunrises that grace it each morning. Mount Battie offers some astonishingly good panoramic views, and there are miles and miles of trails to hike, cross-country ski, snowmobile, bike, off-road, and horseback ride to reach the deepest parts of the forest.

No trip to Maine would be complete without stopping by Acadia National Park, the only national park in the entire Northeast. The land on which the park now resides has been home to native people for over 12,000 years, and remnants left behind by these ancient civilizations can still be found to this day on the countless islands belonging to this rocky, oceanside park. There are gorgeous coastal trails to hike, with towering mountains, sheer rock walls on the ocean, caves, grottos, and much more to see. Each island in the park has its own unique characteristics to enjoy.

RV Parks

In a place like Maine, campgrounds are quite easy to come by. Pumpkin Patch RV Resort has a homey feel to it and could be a good place to park the Troy camper rental. There are rental cabins, spacious campsites, a large event pavilion, an activity center, and a pet walking park for those traveling with their dogs.

There are four KOA campgrounds in the area that you can try out when in Troy, including Skowhegan/Kennebec Valley, Bangor/Holden, Bucksport/Fort Knox, and Bar Harbor/Oceanside. There are bike rentals, pools, tour shuttles, snack bars, and dog parks, among other things at these parks, so check out one or all of them when you rent an RV in Troy.

City Attractions

The town of Troy is beautiful in its own right, with old Puritan churches and iconic New England style architecture showcased by its brilliant old homes and shops, but aside from this pleasant imagery, there is hardly anything to do in town. Luckily, you’ll have a Troy campervan rental, and the nearby city of Bangor is full of stuff to keep the adventure going. The Maine Discovery Museum features lots of exhibits pertaining to all things Maine. The museum is aimed towards children, but an equally nice experience for people of all ages. There are three floors with lots of topics covered, so don’t miss out on this amazing institution.

Along with the museums, there are casinos in town where you can unwind and do a bit of gaming. You can enter poker tournaments, play blackjack, try your luck at the slot machines, or simply dine and have a good time at the restaurants on-site.

There are some quirky and unconventional places to see in Bangor too, like the home of legendary writer Stephen King. This classic New England style piece of artistic craftsmanship is something out one of the horror writer’s novels, with a Gothic feel. You can also take a picture with the Paul Bunyan Statue in town, a 30-foot-tall replica of the folk hero standing in the center of Bass Park.
