Valrico is a census-designated community in east-central Hillsborough County, Florida. It was named by a philosophy professor, William Tousey, who bought property in the area in the 1880s. The word “Valrico” means “rich valley” in Spanish, which makes it an unusual name for the town which has no valleys and was never a Spanish colony. It began as a cotton plantation region before the Civil War, when it was known as “Long Pond” (which referred to the lake now known as Valrico Lake and the surrounding area). By 1890, the town had a post office and the railroad arrived, putting Valrico on the map. Since then it has become known as an important source of citrus groves; it has had its ups and downs over the years but the railroad and the community's proximity to a major Florida thoroughfare have ensured its survival.

Search for an RV in Hillsborough County and you will have your choice of a variety of RV types and models perfectly suited to the Florida environment. There are some other communities of interest that might warrant a short visit while you're here. Crystal Springs is one of coastal Florida's few places where visitors can hunt for scallops (along the Crystal River). Lakeland's downtown core is the original site of the city when it was incorporated in 1885. Mulberry had no train station when it was first settled, so the train would stop at a mulberry tree to let passengers off and on, and the tree became a meeting place for the locals. Bradenton was named for Dr. Joseph Braden, who would often protect settlers from Indian attacks in his house, which was fortress-like. Clearwater became an attractive area to settle in after the Federal Armed Occupation Act of 1842 offered land to those who would serve in the army and clear the land they had been given. Your Valrico travel trailer rental is your invitation to explore the diverse landscape that constitutes the state of Florida.
