The landscape surrounding Walkerton is mostly flat with plenty of farmland, but to the northwest is one of America’s great lakes, Lake Michigan. The city was originally founded in the 1850s, and during World War II it housed many of the workers who were employed at the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant making bombs and bullets.
