Discover Wasco

The Great Outdoors

As previously mentioned, Wasco is surrounded by a nearly endless number of parks, recreation areas, scenic overlooks, raging rivers, and towering mountains, so there is no limit to the fun in store for you when you arrive in town and pick up your Wasco campervan rental. Not sure where to head off to first? Deschutes River State Recreation Area is only a few miles outside of town, with miles of riverfront and jaw-dropping overlooks. There are only around 30 acres of land inside the recreation area, but it is jam-packed with hiking trails, fishing areas, swimming spots, and stunning vantage points perfect for photography at sunset and sunrise. Camping is also available when you visit the recreation area at the junction of the Columbia and Deschutes Rivers.

Cottonwood Canyon State Park is found in the opposite direction, but still close to town. The park is home to basalt rock deposits, shrub-steppe, grassland, and riparian habitats, and various wild animals call the park home. Hiking, biking, climbing, and fishing are some of the most commonly enjoyed activities in the park, and hiking to the adjoining Cottonwood Canyon Recreation Area is an option too.

Mount Hood National Forest is among Oregon’s most famous features, named for the imposing Mount Hood that can be seen from all the way in Portland. There has been a large push to make this enchanting forest a national park due to its ethereal beauty and assortment of natural features. Mount Hood itself is the main focus of the park, and more than four million people visit each year to observe or climb this gigantic stratovolcano. Wildflower-laden meadows, old-growth pine forests, and hidden waterfalls are part of the magic when you set off to explore the vast wilderness contained inside this forest.

On the northern side of the Columbia River over in Washington, Gifford Pinchot National Forest is quite similar to Mount Hood, even containing its own volcano, Mount Saint Helens. The Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument is the remnants of this once mighty volcano, now just a shell of its former self after an earth-shattering explosion in 1980. Both Mount Hood National Forest and Gifford Pinchot National Forest have a few campgrounds to choose from if you need a camping spot for your Wasco camper rental.

RV Parks

It should be simple to find a place to stay when you rent an RV in Wasco. There are a number of accessible and easy to find campgrounds close to town that you can utilize while in town. Grass Valley RV Park offers amenities like internet access, restrooms, laundry facilities, and a movie library for nighttime movie sessions.

Sherman County RV Park is managed by the county, and one of the closest options to Wasco. This year-round fixture is family-friendly, welcoming of pets, and offers much-needed amenities like bathrooms, showers, and scenic landscapes.

Deschutes River State Recreation Area and Cottonwood Canyon State Park are just two of the countless campgrounds open to you and your Wasco RV rental by owner, so don’t be afraid to stay in one of the fabulous state-run campgrounds when you need a place to camp.

City Attractions

Though most visitors to Wasco come for the incredible landscapes and natural beauty, there are some that still hope to walk around a city center sampling local foods and shopping. Wasco has a few places where you can grab a bite to eat, but you might find more success entertaining yourself in the nearby city of Goldendale just over the border in Washington. The Maryhill Museum of Art is one of the best reasons to take a trip to this fascinating town in Washington, and there are tons of reasons to visit. A large collection of original Rodin sculptures, an array of Native American art, and paintings from all over the world make for an eclectic mix of visual art, and you might have to visit a few times before you truly see all the museum has to offer.

The Stonehenge Memorial near Goldendale is a strange but spectacular landmark created with inspiration provided by the real Stonehenge over in England. This full-sized concrete replica mimics the construction used by the original builders of Stonehenge, perfectly calibrated to allow sunlight to shine through a small opening during certain days of the year. The structure doubles as a memorial to fallen soldiers in World War I and the prominent vista on which the monument sits is perfect for catching sweeping views of the valleys below.

Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum is found over in The Dalles, another regional hub and city center east of the Cascade Mountains. The institution covers over 10,000 years of human history, with a focus on wildlife and natural history to complete the picture. History and wildlife are two of the major themes in this awesome center, so booking a visit is definitely recommended.
