Weldona is a tiny village in eastern Colorado, named for General Weldon. This unincorporated community in the high plains of middle America was settled in the early 20th century. The town is about an hour's drive from both Denver to the southwest and Fort Collins to the west.

You can find Weldona, Colorado by taking CO-144, which branches off from Interstate 76 in Fort Morgan. Although it might not feel like it, the town’s elevation is nearly a mile high, attributed to the slow and steady climb from western Nebraska and Kansas. The beauty of the wide-open grasslands of eastern Colorado is contrasted by the majestic Rocky Mountains that can be seen on the horizon when you rent an RV in Weldona, CO. There might not be a whole lot going on in the small village at any given moment, but when you book an RV in Weldona, you set yourself up for quite the adventure, free to go wherever you please.

Explore the Outdoors

Colorado is famous for its incredible mountains, but eastern Colorado has its own sort of beauty. Jackson Lake State Park is just outside of town to the northwest and has a fantastic man-made lake created by damming the South Platte River. The park is popular for its lakefront recreation like fishing, swimming, boating, birdwatching, and grilling on the shore. There are hundreds of camping spots to accommodate your Weldona camper rental when you feel like staying a few days.

Pawnee National Grassland might not sound too exciting, but rest assured there is much to see and do at the 200,000-acre protected area. Stunning buttes appear throughout the grasslands, providing gorgeous scenery, especially for photographs at sunset and sunrise. There are many types of miniature ecosystems at the grassland, from the shortgrass prairies to the shrub steppes and clay barrens, all with unique wildlife and vegetation. Hiking and birdwatching are commonly enjoyed activities but the incredible views of the night skies are one of a kind, especially so far from any urban areas or light pollution.

There are lots of fun state parks by the city of Denver that you can visit when you rent an RV in Weldona, like Cherry Creek State Park or Barr Lake State Park. Barr Lake State Park is home to bald eagles and many other bird species, making it a prime spot for birdwatching. Boating and fishing are allowed in the northern section of the park, while the southern areas are reserved for preservation purposes. Cherry Creek State Park also has a large reservoir where guests may boat, swim, fish, or enjoy the sunshine on the sandy beaches beside it.

No trip to Colorado can be considered a success if you do not visit at least one of the many national parks after you rent an RV. There are several national parks within driving distance of Weldona but Rocky Mountain National Park might just be your best and closest option. Annually, over four and a half million people visit the gem of a park high up in the eponymous mountain range, where a breathtaking collage of subalpine glaciers, meadows of wildflowers, pristine lakes, and icy peaks captivate all that see it. There are several campgrounds at the national park that you can utilize while camping in your Weldona RV rental by owner.

City Sightseeing

Weldona hardly has any restaurants or shops let alone big-name attractions, so if you would like to go sightseeing, the nearby town of Fort Morgan is the closest thing you’ll get aside from visiting Denver or Fort Collins. Fort Morgan is a small town with lots of history, and the Sherman Street National Historic District is a big part of it. This gorgeous neighborhood has loads of splendid Victorian homes from the past that are still standing in pristine shape. The Rainbow Bridge is a local landmark that was built nearly 100 years ago. This important bridge spans the South Platte River and does so in style with spectacular views of the river and grasslands that surround it.

The Fort Morgan Museum is where you should head if you enjoy learning about new places. The museum covers a wide range of topics, like the Great Plains native peoples that conquered the region and lived nomadically for thousands of years. The modern history of the town is covered in great detail, as is the life of Glenn Miller, a famous musician that grew up in Fort Morgan.
