West Harrison is a small town in Dearborn County, Indiana, that was established in 1813 at the same time as Harrison, Ohio, its twin city located just across the Indiana-Ohio border (the two cities are separated by State Street which is situated on the state line). The town was first settled by drifters after the American Revolution and was finally incorporated in 1886. The town's citizens were independently minded and self-sufficient; local merchants supplied whatever was needed, and most people did not see the logic in traveling to the bigger shopping malls in Cincinnati. The town had a roundhouse where trains could turn around and return from where they had come.

In 1921, journalist George Ade implored people to “Travel slowly, stop often.” He stated that “All of our motorists are rushing past the things worth seeing, instead of stopping to enjoy them.” In 1932, a racetrack was built just outside of West Harrison's city limits where illegal greyhound racing was conducted. Small monkeys were dressed up and situated on the backs of the greyhounds to resemble jockeys; the racetrack was closed in 1939.

RV rentals in Dearborn County are the perfect choice for your Indiana vacation. While you are here, there are other towns that you should visit too. Versailles was named after the Palace of Versailles, a former royal residence near Paris, France. Dillsboro was named after a resident, James Dillsboro, who was a general in the War of 1812. Aurora has a long list of structures that are included on the National Register of Historic Places. Your West Harrison travel trailer rental is your invitation to see this historic area firsthand.
