Every July the Michigan Lavender Festival is held in Imlay City, at the East Michigan Fairgrounds. There’s an exhibition on glamping, flower and herb stalls galore and exhibitions on green living.

Further afield, Port Huron, MI, may be worth a visit as it’s the birthplace of Thomas Edison and a historic town in its own right. Port Huron Museum is actually several museums spread across the city, including the Thomas Edison Depot Museum. The museum is where Edison worked out of as reporter between 1859 and 1863 and traces his life from moving to Port Huron from Ohio and his obsession with invention. With live presentations, a theater show and interactive displays, you can really get a feel for Edison, the man.
