The small city of Yale is located in St Clair County, Michigan close to Lake Huron, Imlay City and the border with Canada. When you book an RV in Yale, the beautiful Great Lakes area of North America becomes your campground.

Yale claims to be the unofficial Bologna capital of the world, although there may be other claims to the title. To celebrate the city holds an annual festival in honor of the sausage every July since 1989.

Around the city, the countryside is flat and dominated by agriculture but with many small copse and woodland. It’s a pleasant area to explore when you rent an RV, with wide open roads and beautiful scenery.

The Great Outdoors

A short drive in an RV rental from Yale is Lakeport State Park, on the shores of Lake Huron, and offers swimming, picnic areas, and a playground. There is a camp store for essential supplies and campgrounds for overnight stays. With easy access to Lake Huron and boat ramps nearby, it makes a perfectly relaxing day out.

Head south from Yale in your rental RV, and you’ll find the Pine River Nature Center, just outside Port Huron. There are marked nature trails, and a section of the Pine River flows through the center. An information center explains the importance of the woods and wetlands and describes the various wildlife and habitats you can discover here.

To get a feel for life in rural Michigan in the past, a visit to Goodells County Park could be a great day out with friends and family. Within the park, the St Clair County Farm Museum and Historical Village, CC Peck and Company Bank, along with various other historic buildings and exhibits are waiting to be explored. Once you’ve learned the history, the park offers a nature center, butterfly garden and walking paths through the 327-acre park.

RV Parks

On the edge of Lake Huron, and near the village of Lexington, Lexington RV Resort is definitely worth considering for an overnight stop in your camper rental from Yale. With 210 sites, the campground has plenty of space and only caters to recreational vehicles. On the campground, you’ll find a large clubhouse, full kitchen facilities should you need them, laundry, and shower rooms. In case the colder waters of Lake Huron don’t appeal, there’s also a large heated swimming pool. During the season, many events are arranged, including live music and shows to keep guests entertained.

For a large site aimed at keeping the whole family entertained, especially the kids, consider Port Huron KOA campground, just a short drive in your Yale camper rental. The ever-popular KOA sites offer a range of activities, and this one is no exception with two swimming pools, basketball and volleyball courts, playgrounds and a disc golf course to name just a few. The sites can cater for RV’s up to seventy-five feet long and have full hook-up and free WiFi.

Exploring the City

Every July since 1989, the Yale Bologna Festival has celebrated the production and eating of the sausage in the city. The first bologna sausage, also known as baloney, was sold in the city in 1906 and production of the mortadella based sausage continues still. The Festival elects a King and Queen of Bologna, features many opportunities to eat bologna and see it cooked, plus music and entertainment for the whole family. Definitely, something out of the ordinary to attend if you are nearby in your motorhome rental from Yale.

Close to Imlay City, you’ll find the Indigo Lavender Farms. The fields are a really beautiful sight when the lavender is in full bloom, which usually happens at the beginning of July for around 4 weeks. The farm offers tours of the fields, presentations about lavender production, photo shoots and even operates as a wedding venue.

Every July the Michigan Lavender Festival is held in Imlay City, at the East Michigan Fairgrounds. The show features a food truck area with flavors from all over the world, a children’s activity barn, lavender workshops, live music, and so much more to keep you entertained. There’s an exhibition on glamping, flower and herb stalls galore and exhibitions on green living.

Further afield, Port Huron, MI, may be worth a visit as it’s the birthplace of Thomas Edison and a historic town in its own right. Port Huron Museum is actually several museums spread across the city, including the Thomas Edison Depot Museum. The museum is where Edison worked out of as reporter between 1859 and 1863 and traces his life from moving to Port Huron from Ohio and his obsession with invention. With live presentations, a theater show and interactive displays, you can really get a feel for Edison, the man.
