Introduction

Surrounding Arrowhead Lake which offers wonderful opportunities for water activities, and featuring beautiful hardwood forests, Arrowhead Provincial Park is a historic park ideal for RV holidays. Located about 15 km (9 miles) southeast of Emsdale, along Highway 11, Ontario, this 5 sq. mile (12 sq. km) provincial park is great for recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, wildlife viewing, nature observation, fishing, swimming, snowshoeing, and many more. The quiet motorboat-free lakes in the park - Arrowhead Lake and Mayflower Lake – and 15 km (9 miles) of hiking trails, including one that leads to a waterfall, are some of the features of interest in the park for RV campers.

There are RV campsites equipped with electric hookups in Arrowhead Provincial Park. Other facilities and amenities at the park include camping cabins, comfort stations, showers, day use areas, flush toilets, Park Store, pet exercise area, picnic shelters, canoe/kayak rental facilities, amphitheater, dock, fire pits/grills, dump station, sandy beaches, warm up shelters, and parking lots.

Arrowhead Provincial Park, established in 1971, features remains of old homesteads from the 1870’s. From the park, a portion of the shoreline of Glacial Lake Algonquin is visible.

Driving

Located about 15 km (9 miles) southeast of Emsdale, along Highway 11, Ontario, Arrowhead Provincial Park is a simple drive-in park that is accessible via Arrowhead Park Road. As a result, the park is easily accessible by RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles. Within the park, local paved roads lead to the campgrounds and other sites of interest. There are no driving restrictions within the park.

Parking

RV campers have various options for parking their rigs at Arrowhead Provincial Park, since there are ten parking areas distributed across the campgrounds in the park. You’ll find two parking areas around East River Campground, three parking areas around Roe Campground, three parking lots around Lumby Campground. There are two parking areas by the shore of the Arrowhead Lake in the park. Overnight parking is also available for RV campers at Arrowhead Provincial Park.

Public Transportation

ParkBus offers public bus services from various areas in Ontario to Arrowhead Provincial Park. Furthermore, Ontario Northland operates a bus from Toronto to the park.

Pull-through Campground in Arrowhead Provincial Park features 7 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs. All the campsites in the campground are equipped with electric hookups for RVs. RV length limit at the campground is 32 feet (10 m), however vacationers with larger rigs can call the park ahead to confirm if space is available.

Lumby North Campground

Lumby North Campground in Arrowhead Provincial Park features 36 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs. There are no RV hookups available in the campground. RV length limit at the campground is 32 feet (10 m). Amenities at the campground include comfort station with showers, drinking water, pit/vault toilets, garbage, access to trailheads and dog beach. Lumby South Campground

Lumby South Campground in Arrowhead Provincial Park features 41 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs. There are no RV hookups available in the campground. RV length limit at the campground is 25 feet (8 m). Amenities at the campground include comfort station with showers, drinking water, pit/vault toilets, garbage, access to trailheads, and parking lots. The campsites in the campground are shaded.

Roe Campground

Roe Campground in Arrowhead Provincial Park features 71 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs. All the campsites in the campground are equipped with electric hookups for RVs. RV length limit at the campground is 32 feet (10 m). Amenities at the campground include comfort station with showers, drinking water, dump station, recycling station, pit/vault toilets, camping cabins, access to trailheads, and parking lots. The campground offers great access for fishing.

East River Campground

East River Campground in Arrowhead Provincial Park features 141 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs. 107 campsites in the campground are equipped with electric hookups for RVs. RV length limit at the campground is 32 feet (10 m), however vacationers with larger rigs can call the park to confirm if space is available. Amenities at the campground include comfort station with showers, drinking water, dump station, pit/vault toilets, recycling station, camping cabins, access to trailheads, and parking lots.

Off-Season

Natural Heritage Education

Educational Programs are offered at Arrowhead Provincial Park by park staff and interpreters for RV campers of all ages on the features and history of the park, as well as the culture of the area. Some of these programs include nature and historic walks, kid’s crafts and games, as well as feature presentations.

Swimming

Arrowhead Provincial Park features four quiet, clean, sandy beaches available for RV campers to enjoy swimming in Arrowhead Lake. These beaches have change facilities that back onto birch groves. All swimmers are advised to exercise caution while swimming as no lifeguards are on duty at the beaches in the park.

Winter Activities

Arrowhead Provincial Park bubbles with activities in winter. The park grooms and maintains over 33 km (20.5 miles) of cross-country ski trails available for RV campers to enjoy classic skiing and skate skiing. Ski trails include Beaver Meadow Classic, Homesteaders Skate, Arrowhead Lake Skate and Classic, Roe Skate and Classic, and Lumby Skate and Classic.

Snowshoe and skating trails are also available for campers to enjoy snowshoeing and skating in the park.

In-Season

Canoeing/Kayaking

Arrowhead Provincial Park features two lakes that offer RV campers opportunities for boating, canoeing, and kayaking – Arrowhead Lake and Mayflower Lake. Canoe/kayak rental facilities are also available in the park for campers without their own personal canoes and kayaks. Canoes are perfect for exploring the shorelines and viewing the wildlife of the two lakes in the park. Motorized boats (including electric motors) are prohibited on both lakes in the park. All campers are required to wear a personal flotation device (PFD) at all times.

Biking

Lovers of mountain biking and cycling are not left out of the fun when they visit Arrowhead Provincial Park on RV vacation. The park features mountain bike trails that are moderately challenging. The 5.3 km (3 mile) Arrowhead Lake Trail takes cyclists around the entire Arrowhead Lake offering scenic panoramic views of the lake from awesome vantage points. The 3 km (1.8 mile) Hardwood Hill Cycling Trail also offers campers interesting views of the Hardwood forest in the park.

Hiking

Arrowhead Provincial Park features several easy to moderate difficulty hiking trails for RV campers. The 7 km (4 miles) long moderately-difficult Beaver Meadow Trail, the longest trail in the park, passes through the remnant shoreline of a huge ancient lake. Along the trail, hikers get to see beavers, moose, otter, Tree Swallows, and Great Blue Heron. The panoramic view of the Big East River and Muskoka terrain is enjoyed by hikers on the Big Bend Lookout Trail in the park. Other fascinating hiking trails that offer memorable experiences in Arrowhead Provincial Park include Homesteaders Trail, Mayflower Lake Trail, and Stubb’s Falls Trail.
