Event information

Dancefestopia is an electronic music festival that takes place over four days on the outskirts of Kansas City, Kansas. The venue is nestled in the lap of nature, surrounded by rolling hills, pristine bodies of water, and acres of forests. It offers a camping experience that allows you to enjoy scenic views while still enjoying modern conveniences like running water, electricity, a swimming pool, and comfortable cabins.

Every year, the festival organizers come up with a theme, that is translated into the lighting, visual performances, and décor of the venue. The music performances take place on four different stages that come alive on the days of the event. In the past, world-renowned artists like Zeds Dead, 12th Planet, Bassnectar, Porter Robinson, Wiz Khalifa, and Flo Rida have been part of the festival.

Dancefestopia is so much more than a music festival. Attendees can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the incredible landscape from a helicopter, hot air balloon, rock climbing wall, or zip line. If staying close to the ground is more up your alley, you can try fishing or canoeing in the pristine lake that's within the venue. You can also be a part of some fun pool parties! This festival gets bigger and better every year!

Load up your campervan or Airstream and head to Dancefestopia for three days of music, outdoor activities, and camaraderie with fellow campers and fans. Looking to explore your way to the festival? Kansas RV parks and campgrounds await your visit throughout the state.

Transportation

Driving

The organizers recommend routes on the official website which make it easy for festival-goers to get to the venue on time and in an orderly manner. Once you reach Kansas City, it's a good idea to follow a recommended route that follows event signage along the road to reach the festival grounds. This way you can avoid holding up traffic or getting lost. Keep in mind that Dancefestopia takes place near US-69 on the Kansas side of Kansas City and runs just along the border with Missouri.

Parking areas

Parking passes are available at Dancefestopia and can be bought in advance or purchased on site. It is recommended to buy these in advance to avoid missing out if a parking pass will be needed. RVs will not be allowed into the main parking area, but since your rig will be parked at your campsite (RVs can go straight there), you may only need this option if you have additional vehicles to consider.

Public Transportation

The festival takes place just outside Kansas City, and there are no shuttle services offered to and from the city center. The best option apart from driving is to take a taxi or opt for a rideshare service if you will camp outside of the venue. However, there may be a couple of bus and train routes that can get you close to the festival venue.

Where to stay

Onsite

Camping passes give you access to onsite camping. Guests can choose from the manicured forest, primitive forest, or field camping. You’ll need to get to the venue early to claim your spot since they are allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. Campers need a three-day admission ticket in addition to the camping pass to access the campgrounds.

Nearby

You’ll find plenty of campgrounds and RV parks in and around Kansas City. Some of these come with facilities that are not available at the festival RV campground like electrical, water, and sewage hookups, and sometimes laundry services and food lockers. If these amenities are essential to you, you’re better off choosing a well-equipped campground close to the venue.

Rutlader Outpost and RV Park is about 10 miles away via US-69 and is open all year long. Looking for a bit of history while camping? Lewis and Clark State Park offers both on the northern end of Kansas City just across the Missouri border.

Getting around

The venue is not very large, and guests typically get around on foot. Special ADA accessible parking areas are available for patrons with disabilities. There is also a designated drop off area where passengers with disabilities can be dropped off. Bicycles and small motorized vehicles are not allowed in the concert area.

What to pack

Clothing

Many people use Dancefestopia as an opportunity to dress up in their most striking rave attire and show off their creativity. You can wear pretty much anything you want as long as it is not offensive. While almost anything goes, it’s a good idea to wear something you’re comfortable in and protect yourself from the elements.

Gear

Since you’re likely to be camping at the event, it’s a good idea to carry a few essentials that can make your festival experience more comfortable. Be sure to take sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, a portable charger, and toilet paper. Some camping supplies like flashlights, a first-aid box, a cooler, and a folding table can also come in handy.

Health & Safety

Remember to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun. Water stations will be present inside the venue, and water will also be available for purchase at the concession stands. Port-o-potties will be available to all, but you’ll need to buy a relaxation pass to access running sinks and flushable toilets.

Where to eat

Cooking

If you’d like to prepare some of your own meals, you can use the built-in stove or cooking setup that your RV has. You can bring packaged food, drinks, and coolers into the campground. It's a good idea to carry items like bread, cheese, and sandwich meats. Also take some drinks, nuts, and fresh fruit to keep you going through the day. Cooking on open fires or grills of any kind is prohibited in the camping area. Remember to check tank levels before arriving since camping options are considered primitive.

Restaurants

Restaurant selections may be minimal near the Dancefestopia festival site, but Kansas City will have more options than hungry bellies can imagine. Kansas City is known for its incredible barbecue restaurants. But you can get so much more than just delicious barbecue here. You will also find a number of new eateries serving up delicious Midwestern cuisine. There is even a food hall where you can get some beloved classics and still experiment with other cuisines.

Vendors

Dancefestopia will have vendors in place at the venue serving up delicious snacks, meals, and drinks. Alcohol will be available for sale, and you can also bring a limited amount with you into the campgrounds. Keep in mind that most food vendors only accept cash, so come prepared. There are ATMs on the venue in case you need to make withdrawals.

Safety

Security

There will be around the clock security at Dancefestopia. Guests can enter and leave the site as you please as long as you are wearing your wristband. Loitering in the parking lots is discouraged, and guests will be searched every time upon re-entry to the grounds.

Weather

Fans are likely to enjoy plenty of sunshine and clear skies at Dancefestopia. However, there have been some occurrences of rainfall and stormy skies during past events. In case the weather takes a turn for the worse, attendees will be directed to go back to their vehicles or campsites or given other instructions at that time.

Medical

Medical assistance will be available to festival attendees during the entire event. Centers will be set up throughout the festival site and campgrounds. If you or someone you know requires assistance, you can flag down any staff member or medical officer you encounter. Additional medical services and pharmacy options may best be located closer to Kansas City.
