Introduction

Dollar Lake Provincial Park is near the Musquodoboit Valley, which is known for outdoor activities and nature. The park is covered in lush forest and is situated on a large 17-mile (27 km) lake. Hiking, boating, fishing, and swimming are offered at the park, making it a great weekend getaway or stop on a road trip.

After arriving at the park, head down to the sandy beach to take a dip in the refreshing lake water or stretch your legs on the park’s interconnecting hiking trails. The covered picnic shelters are perfect for enjoying a meal between activities. The playground near the picnic area will provide great enjoyment to kids. Pets are welcome at the park as well, but must remain on a leash.

There are 117 unserviced campsites at Dollar Lake as well as a group site. The campsites are shaded and private, situated under a forest of trees. While the campsites are unserviced there are many amenities for guests to enjoy during their stay. Reservations can be made online in advance of your stay. Camping season begins at Dollar Lake in June and ends in October.

You can expect mild to warm weather during your stay. Temperatures can reach the into the 70s between June and August making it pleasant to enjoy a day at the sandy beach or out on the lake. The nights can be cool, so plan to bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. Enjoy the quiet evenings around the campfire under the sky full of stars.

Driving

Dollar Lake Provincial Park is located near Wyses Corner, Nova Scotia. Wyses Corner is a small, farming community. Visitors to the park may find themselves driving a longer distance to a larger municipality if in need of services or supplies.

If looking to venture out on a day or afternoon outing, there are many attractions within a 30-minute drive of the park. There are museums in Enfield as well as Musquodoboit Harbor. The Musquodoboit Trailways are also not far from Dollar Lake.

The drive to the park should be mostly hazard-free. The road to the park isn’t serviced as often, so you may encounter a few bumps or potholes on the way in. At the park, visitors will find that the campsites are spacious, even for those with larger rigs. Park guests can walk, bike, or drive to the different activities and amenities within the park. There is additional parking near the day-use beach.

There are 117 campsites within Dollar Lake Provincial Park. The campsites are spread across four camping loops and include a group site in loop B. The campsites are unserviced, so do plan to come prepared for dry camping. There is a dump station at the park.

Camping season runs from June to October. Some campsites are partially shaded while others are fully shaded, with the trees providing shelter and privacy. The campsites are spacious with some accommodating RVs or trailers over 40 feet in length. Leashed pets are welcome at Dollar Lake, so bring your pet along for your visit!

There are flush toilets and showers at the park which can be found near the day-use area and each camping loop with the exception of loop B. Other amenities at the park include a playground, picnic shelters, and firewood.

Off-Season

Playground

Dollar Lake has a playground for kids to enjoy near loop A. Kids can run and climb around on the playground equipment between other park activities or during downtime. There are picnic shelters near the playground, making it a great spot to enjoy lunch or snack while the children play.

Picnic

Covered picnic shelters are located near the boat launch and playground area. These shaded spots are perfect for enjoying a group gathering or celebration. Take a break from boating or hiking for a meal or snack. Let the kids play at the nearby playground while setting out the food and drinks.

Fishing

Fishing is a popular activity at Dollar Lake. Speckled trout and lake trout can be caught from the 17-mile (27 km) lake. A boat launch makes it easy to drop in your fishing boat, kayak, or canoe. Fishing is a great way to spend a day for visitors of all ages. A Nova Scotia issued fishing license is required to fish on the lake.

In-Season

Hiking

Dollar Lake Provincial Park provides its visitors with numerous interconnecting trails to explore. The Dollar Lake Trail is nearly 1.5 miles (2.1 km). The trail itself is out and back, but there are other trails that break off from it. Hikers will pass through the thick green forest of trees and may encounter many different types of birds, vegetation, and other wildlife. The park is also located near the Musquodoboit Trailways.

Swimming

Dollar Lake has a sandy beach for visitors to enjoy during their stay. Swim or lounge in the sand on warm, summer days. The beach does have supervised swimming during the months of July and August. A concession stand and showers are located near the beach as well.

Boating

The large, 17-mile lake is perfect to enjoy an array of water sports. On a warm day, head out on the water to enjoy boating, water skiing, or jet skiing. Bring along your canoe or a kayak to spend the day exploring the area from the water. The boat launch near camping loop A makes it easy to unload and load your watercraft from your vehicle or trailer.
