Event information

Nicknamed the "Monster Mile," the Dover International Speedway has hosted at least two NASCAR events every year since its opening in 1969. Dover International has gone through a series of improvements and expansions since its creation that makes it the largest entertainment venue in the Mid-Atlantic.

Racing isn't the only action you can take advantage of when you visit here; the grounds are also home to the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino. Here you will be able to watch all the excitement of NASCAR from the comfort of the bar and lounge.

RVers will find several campgrounds on site. Some of these camping spots come with additional services like concierge service, hookups, and garage passes. Even if you can't visit during the NASCAR season, there are still other events for you to take advantage of at this speedway. Encounter all the thrills and speed as your favorite driver does with one of many racing experiences and driving schools that work out of Dover International. Whatever your reason for coming, this family-friendly speedway will inspire great times and memories to last a lifetime.

Transportation

Driving

Dover International Speedway is sandwiched between DE-1 and US-13. On a larger scale, the speedway is located in the eastern part of Delaware, just off of the bay. Whether you are coming from the north or south, your best bet may be to take DE-1, also called the Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway, or take US-13.

If coming from the north, you may pass the Dover Mall, if from the south you'll pass Silver Lake. Remember to have cash on hand for tolls in this area and expect to one or more bridges. Local weather for Delaware Bay and the surrounding coastlines should be kept in mind. Remember to check road alerts for Maryland and Pennsylvania as you approach the tiny peninsula including the State of Delaware.

Parking areas

Parking on the grounds is free for Friday and Saturday events and is usually around $10 on Sunday, with only cash accepted. Spaces often fill fast on Sunday, and you may be rerouted to a separate location if arriving later. RV drivers that haven't reserved a spot ahead of time will have to pay around $100 to go to either Lot 1 or 10. People with disabilities will find ADA parking located in Lot E, by Turn 3, and in the south parking lots.

Public Transportation

Because of the size of the grounds and the traffic in the surrounding area, Dover International Speedway has teamed up with a shuttle service. In the past, this service has operated out of area mall locations with limited seating available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Multiple busing and touring companies make trips to the speedway grounds during major events.

Where to stay

Onsite

Most of the RV lots are considered dry, with the exception of the Champion's Gate spot which comes outfitted with the most premium amenities. Lots 10 and 6 are for unreserved RVers, Lot 8 is more family-oriented, while Lot 7 is considered the closest and usually provides additional pit and tow passes. Lot choices may also be determined by the type and size of your rig. Water refill and sewage dumping stations are present for use.

Nearby

Additional campgrounds are spread out near the speedway and might be a good option for guests that want a little space between them and the racing crowds. Most of these RV campgrounds are located just off of DE-1 and US-13, often allowing you to easily get back to Dover International Speedway in around 15 minutes.

Getting around

Carts, scooters, and other motorized vehicles that aren't certified for use by staff are prohibited on the grounds. Shuttle services are available from farther off lots to the track for people with disabilities and one guest. Guests that require a wheelchair or an electric convenience vehicle are permitted to bring their own, with no rentals on site. If you have trouble finding the entrance, just look for the giant monster holding the car above his head.

Keep in mind that rigs must remain in place until their departure or additional fees may be incurred.

Restaurants

If you'd like to get a bite to eat outside of the grounds that you can head south down US-13. You'll find a long list of grilles, cafes, and restaurants for you to peruse like casual barbecue, tasty seafood, and colorful Italian.
