Huichica Music Festival is held in the region of Pines Plains, New York. Described as a rural community with unparalleled natural beauty, the area is steeped in the history of days gone by. The third generation owners welcome attendees to come and hear Indie music, sample the delicious fare that is creatively crafted with farm-fresh produce, and sample wine from the Gundlach Bundschu Winery. This micro-festival is all about supporting local artists, whether they be cheesemakers, clothing designers or musical performers.

Bring the family and camp on site. Tents and RVs are welcome in pastures that are not being used by the cattle. A peaceful and unique camping adventure awaits!

Tickets for this Indie-Folk experience cost around $100 and can be ordered online. Remember, it is a micro-festival, so spots are limited. Driving

Head South from Hudson, New York. The route to Chaseholm Farm where the festival is held is a rural one. You will enjoy the stunning scenery that Hudson Valley is famous for; drive carefully and slowly as wildlife is sure to be present. Once you arrive at the venue, you will be directed to the paddy-free pastures that will be the campground for the weekend.

Parking areas

If you are camping at another campground nearby, you can park during the day in the farm parking lot. Vehicles that are carrying three or more people can park for free; all others will pay a small fee. Carpooling and ridesharing are encouraged.

Public Transportation

Public transport is not an option other than a festival shuttle that will operate each day from via MetroNorth’s Harlem line traveling in from New York City. RV enthusiasts who want to stay near the city can take advantage of this picturesque way to get to Huichica.

Where to stay

Onsite

Basic, but clean, accommodation is available for parking your RV or setting up your tent. Restrooms are provided, but the rest is up to you. Stock up the RV with adequate supplies and make your spot in the field all your own. The main rule to be followed is to pack out what you bring into the festival area. Cows will be grazing in the fields again once you leave, so respect the safety of these docile creatures and keep your camping area pristine and free of hazards.

If you prefer to stay in a full hookup campground while attending Huichica, Hudson Valley that is possible as there are many options only a short drive away. Travelers to the area can choose a campground that offers electricity, big rig access, sewer, a pool, and even wi-fi and cable tv, if that is to your liking. Point the RV toward a shady spot, pull out the lawn chairs and create your home away from home for the weekend.

Getting around

With the kids in tow, you’ll need either a wagon or stroller just in case the little ones get tired. Bringing these items is not a problem, but you cannot carry in tricycles, or ride on bikes or skateboards. This is an event for meandering about the farm and fields, and you will have no need to rush about the area. In regards to ADA accessibility, call the farm for details.

What to pack

Clothing

Shorts or jeans are the typical choices for apparel, along with a comfy t-shirt. The daytime temperature at Huichica, Hudson Vally are likely to be very comfortable, but don’t let the sun’s rays fool you! A hat that covers the ears and the neck is the best bet for all family members. Closed toe shoes are ideal as well for the cooler evenings, and for comfort’s sake, too. A sweater or jacket will complete your festival garb.

Gear

Being an event that celebrates nature and its bounties, you may want to attend the festival with just a water bottle and your ticket! You can come and go as you like to get what you may need from the RV in the pasture. Be sure to stock the RV with rain gear in case of inclement weather; the kids may want to visit the cows, rain or shine. You can bring along a blanket to sit on at the performances, but leave the lawn chairs back at camp.

Health & Safety

Bring plenty of sunscreen and make certain to apply it often throughout the day. Take advantage of the opportunities to grab a patch of shade when you can and fill up your water bottle often. Refreshing water is available free for the partaking all weekend long.

Cooking

You can prepare a tasty meal when you are at the RV; consider yummy cereals, yogurt, and fruit for breakfast and a simple meal that includes salads and vegetables in the evening. Keep with the Huichicha, Hudson Valley theme and stick to farm fresh fare! Campfires are not allowed, but meals can be made on your RV stove. Pack your rig with the needed cooking utensils, pots, and dishes and remember not to leave any garbage behind.

Restaurants

Local restaurants in nearby Pine Plains have the same attitude as the organic farm that hosts Huichica. It’s all about community and supporting those that live there. Food that ranges from home-cooked muffins and freshly baked bread for sandwiches to pasta made with locally grown ingredients are yours for the savoring. Like the Chaseholm Farm that was passed down through the generations, so are several of the eateries.

Vendors

Local artisans, bakers, chefs, and more will please the eye and the palate as you wander through the marketplace that is set up at Huichica. The children will be more than happy to sample homemade cookies while you look at the booths and stands. In between the music, support those who have put together a real countryside shopping experience.

Safety

Security

Chaseholm Farm staff will be on hand all weekend to answer any security inquiries you may have. The farm has been made available for a remote and tranquil camping experience so be sure to do your part and keep the peace. Respect the nighttime hours after the festival has come to a close for the evening and make sure that the kiddos are tucked in for lights out so that they are ready for playtime in the Kid Zone again the next day.

Weather

Huichica Music Festival is held in August which means warm days and a cooling trend for the nights. It’s a good time of year to hold a festival; usually, the sun graces the skies for several hours a day. Rain can sometimes be on the weather radar so be prepared for all changes to the daily climate.

Medical

As with any camping trip, place medications at the top of your prep list. If you have ADA accessibility questions, the friendly festival staff will be happy to take a phone call ahead of time. During the event, you will easily find volunteers who can assist you with a medical need; as well, always have a first aid kit in your RV.
