Jefferson Lake State Park is remotely located and is regarded as one of Ohio`s quieter parks. It is an ideal recreational center if you are looking for a place to make you feel like you are off the grid for a while. This 962-acre state park is a gateway for fun and relaxation. The park offers numerous outdoor adventures like hiking, fishing, and picnicking.

This state park has 18 miles worth of trails. Once you park your camper, head down one of the multi-use trails. The trails are suited for bikers, hikers, and horseback riders. The Campground Hikers Trail offers a moderate challenge and is designated for hiking only. Picnicking is a major activity at Jefferson Lake State Park. Picnic tables and grills are well positioned in scenic areas surrounding the lake. Anglers who visit the park can enjoy catches of catfish, redear sunfish, and bluegill. Jefferson Lake is open to boating, accommodating non-motorized boats and those with electric motors up to four horsepower.

If you visit Jefferson Lake State Park in your rig during winter, you can indulge in ice skating, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing if weather conditions permit.

Driving

Jefferson Lake State Park is located in Ohio, very close to the Ohio-Pennsylvania border as it is only about an hour from Pittsburgh, PA and an hour-and-a-half from Akron, OH. Local roads will take you anywhere you want to go within the park, from the entrance and campground to the trailheads. They are well paved to allow for smooth movement even with large motorhomes.

You are not allowed to park a vehicle or camper in a way that blocks any roadway or a pedestrian walkway. Visitors are only allowed to park their campervans and vehicles at the designated parking spots, which are well laid out to ensure there is no congestion or interference with the flow of traffic.

There are no set driving restrictions for trailers so you can access the park facilities with much ease. If you are camping, you can park at the campground as it can accommodate trailers. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails within Jefferson Lake State Park are numerous and well-interconnected to allow you access the park`s features.

Jefferson Lake Campground

The campground at Jefferson Lake State Park is perfect for a fun family camping trip. There are 127 campsites that are suitable for RVs and tents. There are five electric sites and 92 non-electric sites to choose from. All sites are accessible on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the year, so you won’t need to worry about making reservations. Each site is fitted with amenities like a picnic table, water fountains, a dump station, and vault latrines for your convenience. Fun activities in the campground include volleyball and basketball courts for you to get out and play with the family. Pets are allowed on all sites, and reservations are not available.

Equestrian Campground

There are 30 non-electric equestrian sites close to the Trillium Trailhead. These sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Horse tie lines are also provided. Parking space is also provided in these sites. No reservations are available.

In-Season

Picnicking

Jefferson Lake State Park is a good location to go picnicking with your family or friends. The park has well-developed picnic areas and shelters. Picnic tables and outdoor grills are well positioned in scenic spots to allow you a great view of the lake as you have your picnic lunch. These lakeside picnic areas will provide you with a perfect balance of calmness and relaxation. There are two shelter houses available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Swimming

Swimming is a major recreation activity at Jefferson Lake State Park so don't forget your swimsuit in your camper. The park boasts of a 200-foot public beach that provides swimmers and sunbathers with good recreational opportunities. The beach allows you to cool your body on a warm afternoon. Close to the beach is a swing set for young beach lovers. Facilities close to the beach include toilets, a bathhouse, and showers. You are advised to use caution while swimming at the beach, and pets are not allowed in this area.

Boating

If you love to get out on the water, Jefferson Lake State Park is your ideal RV vacation destination. The 17-acre Jefferson Lake offers you a quiet place to stop and enjoy. You can even go fishing while you’re here. The park has one launch ramp available that provides easy access to the lake. Non-motorized boats are allowed on the lake, and you can also go boating with motorized boats with up to four horsepower.

Off-Season

Hiking

For hikers, Jefferson Lake State Park has close to 18 miles of rugged and scenic trails that stretch across the park. There are eight trails that serve hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. The Fernview Trail is the easiest and stretches for only two miles. The four and a half mile Logan Trail is the longest and most challenging. Other trails allow for multi-use. Campground Hikers Trails are designated for hiking only and the Campground Horse Trail is a bridle-only trail. These trails can be accessed during any season.

Fishing

Anglers visiting Jefferson Lake State Park get an opportunity to wet their line on Jefferson Lake. If you love natural life, carry your fishing gear along in your rig so that you can enjoy this relaxing outdoor activity. You will enjoy catches of largemouth bass, catfish, redear sunfish, and bluegill. You can go fishing after hiking so that you can get your body relaxed all over again. For you to be permitted to fish, you will be required to provide a valid Ohio fishing license.

Winter Activities

You can also visit Jefferson Lake State Park during the cold months and engage in outdoor activities like ice skating, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing should weather conditions permit. You can be sure that these activities will motivate you to get out in the cold and get your blood pumping. So, bring your high horsepower snowmobiles when you visit the park so that you can have some winter fun.
