Introduction

Bordered to the east by Jimsmith Lake, Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park is a great place to enjoy peaceful RV camping experiences. Located 5 km (3 miles) southwest of Cranbrook on a local paved road off Highway 3/95, this small provincial park is a nice place to enjoy retreats within a beautifully forested setting.

There are numerous recreational activities to enjoy while on vacation at Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park. These include boating and canoeing on Jimsmith Lake, fishing for largemouth bass, rainbow trout, and brook, hiking on designated trails, cycling on park roadways, flora and fauna observation, bird viewing, swimming, picnicking, sunbathing, photography, ice skating, tobogganing, and many more.

Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park features 35 RV campsites available on first-come, first-served basis only. No RV hookups are available in the park, however, other facilities and amenities such as picnic areas, pit/flush toilets, washrooms, Information Center, campfire, garbage bins, boat launch, and parking lots are available.

The park was established in 1956 and rebuilt to accommodate RVs in 2001.

Transportation

Driving

Located 5 km (3 miles) southwest of Cranbrook on a local paved road off Highway 3/95, Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park can be easily accessed by RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles. Trout Road passes through the park, while another local road within the park leads to the campground. There are no driving restrictions within the park.

Parking

There are three parking areas for RVs, trailers, and cars at Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park. RV campers can choose to park their rigs at any of the three parking lots or at their respective campsites in the park. Overnight parking is available.

Public Transportation

There are no direct public transportation services to Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park.

First-come first-served

Jimsmith Lake Campground

Jimsmith Lake Campground in Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park features 35 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. There are no RV hookup options available at the campground. RV length limit at the campground is 32 ft (10 m).

Amenities available at Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park include washrooms, wheelchair accessible areas, water taps, Information Center, and access to trailheads.

All the campsites in the campground are available on first-come, first-served basis only.

Boating/Canoeing

Opportunities to enjoy boating, canoeing, and kayaking are available at Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park. Car top boats and canoes are allowed on Jimsmith Lake while power boats are not allowed. A paved boat launch at the park offers RV campers access to the lake so that they can enjoy the water-related recreational activities available in the park.

Fishing

Jimsmith Lake is a popular spot to fish for largemouth bass, rainbow trout, and brook; hence RV campers and anglers never miss a visit to Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park to enjoy fishing for these fish species. An appropriate fishing license is required to engage in fishing and angling at Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park.

Hiking/Cycling

Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park features various short hiking trails that begin from the campground and lead to the shore of Jimsmith Lake. These trails take campers through the vegetative areas of the park that offer scenic flora views. Posted signs are available on the trails to guide hikers.

Cycling is also allowed on the roads in Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park and RV campers can explore the different parts of the park thereby.

Flora and Fauna

Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park sits within a Douglas fir and larch forest setting offering RV campers unique opportunities to enjoy nature study. In addition, the park’s habitats, such as cattail marshes, are suitable for wildlife, hence, many birds and wildlife are commonly seen in the park.

Swimming

Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park features a sandy beach where RV campers can visit to enjoy swimming in Jimsmith Lake. No lifeguards are available at the beach in the park.

Picnicking

There is a large day-use and picnic area in Jimsmith Lake Provincial Park equipped with picnic facilities for RV campers on vacation at the park to enjoy outdoor meals with family and friends while enjoying beautiful views of Jimsmith Lake.
