What Makes Knott's Berry Farm the Ultimate RV Theme Park Destination?

Nestled in the heart of Southern California's theme park corridor, Knott's Berry Farm stands as America's first theme park, born from Walter Knott's humble roadside berry stand in the 1920s. This 57-acre wonderland captures the authentic spirit of the Old West while delivering world-class thrills that rival any major theme park destination. With over 40 rides, 10 roller coasters, and endless food and entertainment options, Knott's Berry Farm represents the perfect blend of California history and modern theme park innovation.

The park's unique charm lies in its four distinct themed areas: Ghost Town recreates an authentic 1880s Old West boom town complete with cowboys, gunfights, and gold panning experiences. The Boardwalk area features gravity-defying roller coasters like Xcelerator that launch riders 0-80 mph in just 2.3 seconds, while Fiesta Village celebrates California's Hispanic roots with vibrant Mexican architecture and thrilling rides like Montezooma's Revenge.

Camp Snoopy, recently reimagined in 2024, serves as the crown jewel for families with young children. This six-acre area, inspired by California's High Sierras, allows visitors to become full-fledged Beagle Scouts alongside Snoopy and the Peanuts gang. New attractions include Snoopy's Tenderpaw Twister Coaster, Camp Snoopy's Off-Road Rally, and Sally's Swing Along, creating magical first-ride experiences for the next generation of theme park enthusiasts.

The park's location, between Los Angeles and Santa Ana, makes it easily accessible via CA-39 and CA-91, just a quarter mile from I-5. Adventure City sits 3.3 miles to the south, while Disneyland lies only 7.5 miles southeast, making Knott's Berry Farm the perfect complement to any Southern California theme park adventure.

What sets Knott's apart from larger theme parks is its manageable size and intimate atmosphere. The park's smaller footprint means less walking between attractions while still packing tremendous variety into every visit. Plus, RV parking is hassle-free and accommodates large rigs for just $35, making it one of the most RV-friendly theme park destinations in California.

What to pack

Clothing

The weather in Southern California is almost always excellent with sunny skies and warm weather year-round. The only time it gets really hot is July through September, so for those who are planning a trip then, pack summer clothes. Don’t forget the hoodie or jacket, though, because at night, the temperatures usually drop about 20 degrees.

Gear

Bring as little as possible into the park because many of the rides do not allow purses or backpacks, and phones are liable to get wet or broken. Visitors often wear fanny packs to store their keys, wallet, and phone. For those who have big items to bring, Knott’s Berry Farm has lockers for rent in the Ghost Town area.

Health & Safety

Since water bottles are allowed, make sure each guest has one with them. They can be refilled at the water fountains found throughout the park. Grab a trial-sized bottle of sunscreen to tuck in your pocket so you can reapply it as needed. It wouldn’t hurt to bring a small first-aid kit with aspirin, antibiotic ointment, and band-aids as well.

Where to eat

Cooking

RVers staying at a campground with full hookups should have no trouble cooking indoors. Visitors tend to cook outside on the provided campfire grill or bring their own camp stove or BBQ pit. Always be prepared with items like extra water, trash bags, cooking and eating utensils, cooking spray, and aluminum foil. Stock up before heading to the park, so you don’t find yourself paying extreme prices at the closest convenience store.

Restaurants

The town of Buena Park, less than two miles to the north, has about a dozen places to eat from fast food drive-thrus to fine dining establishments. RVers looking for a burger can choose from several different burger joints, and those who want Asian cuisine can find two Korean restaurants and a Chinese eatery. For those looking for something more relaxing, there are a few diners as well.

Vendors

Before visitors even get to the park, they may be drooling because of the delicious smells coming from over 30 eateries and food kiosks. From the pizza and Dippin’ Dots in Camp Snoopy to the Gourmet Coffee Hut and fancy diner on the Boardwalk, Knott’s Berry Farm has a plethora of delights to satisfy that hunger. Ghost Town has 11 different food vendors where visitors can get fried rice, churros, pork chops, and many other meals or snacks. And don’t forget to try the signature Knott’s Berry Pie at the main restaurant. Grab some souvenirs and other unique items from one of the 16 shops in the park before leaving.

Safety

Security

Whether coming in through the main entrance or a side entrance, prepare to go through the metal detectors by removing items from all pockets, including phones, keys, wallets, and anything else that can set off the detector. Bags and purses will be searched as well, so plan for a few extra minutes of wait time. Allowed items may vary between Soak City and other portions of Knott's Berry Farm but things such as weapons, glass, and alcohol are not permitted in either location.

Weather

Being in Southern California, the temps stay in the 70s almost all year long. The lows are usually in the upper 50s or low 60s. From July until September, the temperatures are typically in the 80s for the high and middle 60s for the low. There is rarely any rain in this section of the country, so you don’t need to bring your rain gear. However, it is always good to have a weather app on your phone.

Medical

If you or someone you are with gets hurt or feels ill in any way, head to Ghost Town where they have a first-aid center. The park has several licensed nurses on duty during park hours to treat minor issues. If you need further care the nearest medical center is about 2.5 miles away.
