Introduction

Characterized by cypress trees, artesian springs, ancient oaks dripping in Spanish moss, and a wildlife management area, Leroy Percy State Park, one of the oldest state parks in Mississippi, offers awesome natural features perfect for RV holidays. At the 60-acre park located five miles west of Hollandale, off Mississippi Highway 12, campers enjoy seasonal hunting of deer, squirrel, turkey, duck, and dove.

Leroy Percy State Park features 16 standard campsites that are pet-friendly, a beautiful wooded tent camping area, 8 vacation cabins, a 48-seater group cabin, and laundry facilities. Activities and facilities at the park include bath house, boat launch ramp, cabins, comfort station, disc golf course, dump station, firewood, fishing, group camping, hiking trail, hunting, ice, laundry, meeting hall, parking, picnic pavilion, picnic tables, playground, showers and volleyball.

The cabins in the park near Alligator Lake provide a comfortable retreat for RV vacationers as well as hunting parties with its air-conditioned and heated facilities. Reservations are strongly recommended for the cabins. The Group Camp is available in an air-conditioned dormitory in the park lodge and reservations are required for their use.

Leroy Percy State Park is one of two state parks in Mississippi that features a wildlife management area.

Transportation

Driving

It is very easy to access Leroy Percy State Park by RVs, trailers, and other vehicles because the park is located five miles west of Hollandale, off Mississippi Highway 12. The group camp area, campsites, and cabins are connected by local roads within the park that make navigation easy. There are no driving restrictions within the park.

Parking

When you arrive at Leroy Percy State Park, there are parking areas available for your RVs and trailers at the campsites. Overnight parking is also available.

Public Transportation

There are no public transportation facilities available at Leroy Percy State Park.

Reservations camping

Leroy Percy Campground

Leroy Percy Campground in Leroy Percy State Park features 16 pet-friendly standard campsites available for tents and RVs. Each of the campsite in the campground is equipped with electrical, water, and sewer hookups for RVs. RV length limit at the campground is 40 feet. A bathhouse equipped with laundry facilities and hot showers is located near the campground.

All the campsites in the campground are available for advance reservations, while the remainder are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Smoking is not allowed in the campground. A wooded area near the campground features tent camping sites equipped with picnic tables and a bathhouse with showers. No alcohol is allowed in the campground. Quiet hours in the campground are 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

In-Season

Disc Golfing

On your way to Leroy Percy State Park, be prepared to enjoy disc golfing as the park offers a disc golf course. What’s more, the disc golf is open to all RV campers and the public. So, you have every chance to participate in a friendly competition with your family and/or friends on the trip with you, or engage fellow RV campers in the activity. Disc rental and purchase facilities are available in the park office. The Disc Golf Course is a part of the Southern National Disc Golf Association.

Fishing

RV campers and anglers enjoy fishing at Leroy Percy State Park as the Alligator Lake in the park has abundant species of fish such as bream, bass, and catfish. There are no fish cleaning stations in the park, but that in no way deters campers from enjoying themselves while catching fish in the lake. RV campers and anglers between the ages of 16 and 65 require a Mississippi fishing license to fish in the lake, and the license can be acquired from the park office.

Hiking

Pack your good hiking boots on your trip to Leroy Percy State Park in your RV to enjoy the nature trail in the park. This trail, named the Alligator Lake Trail, winds by the Alligator lake and passes through a delta hardwood forest which is a natural wildlife habitat. So, prepare to see some wildlife on your trek while you enjoy the picturesque view of the lake.

Off-Season

Picnicking

Leroy Percy State is a perfect destination for picnicking on RV vacations. The park has 30 picnic sites that offer amenities such as tables and grills. What’s more, while picnicking at Leroy Percy State Park, you are treated to stunning views of Alligator Lake. In addition to the picnic sites, the park features a large picnic pavilion that serves as the ideal spot for family reunions, group outings, and company picnics. The pavilion is equipped with electricity.

Hunting

Leroy Percy State Park offers seasonal hunting opportunities for RV campers for deer, squirrel, duck, turkey, and dove. The deer hunting is allowed with primitive weapons or archery only. All campers that wish to hunt at the park must register for such activity at the park office. The park has a 1,642- acre Wildlife Management Area (WMA), one of the two WMAs on a state park in Mississippi. Besides the designated hunting area in Leroy Percy State Park, other hunting areas are available near the park.

Flora

Leroy Percy State Park is replete with bottomland hardwood stands that consist of even-aged timber classes. As a result, the forest canopy in the park shades out many herbaceous plants that occur in the park. The vegetation in the park is a major contributor to the presence of deer. The park itself recovered from ice storm damage that opened up moderation portions of the forest canopy in the area.
