Introduction

Sitting on the eastern part of the south arm of Kootenay Lake is Lockhart Beach Provincial Park, a small and beautiful forested park suitable for memorable RV camping. Located 19 km (12 miles) south of Crawford Bay, along Highway 3A, Lockhart Beach Provincial Park is one of the 13 protected areas with the Southern Columbia Mountains ecosection.

RV campers at Lockhart Beach Provincial Park can enjoy various recreational activities including flora observation, wildlife and bid watching, biking on park roads, canoeing and kayaking on Kootenay Lake, swimming, picnicking, nature study, photography, pet walking, and lots more.

This small provincial park features 18 RV campsites available on first-come first-served basis only. The park provides basic camping amenities such as water taps, pit toilets, and picnic tables. Campfires are also available in the park. There is no phone at the park, however nearby resorts and towns offer telephone and tourist services.

The most popular feature of Lockhart Beach Provincial Park is its sandy beach which is well visited by swimmers and picnic lovers.

Transportation

Driving

Located 19 km (12 miles) south of Crawford Bay, along Highway 3A, Lockhart Beach Provincial Park is a simple drive-in park that is easy to locate and access by RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles. Local gravel roads within the park connect the campsites and take campers wherever they want in the park. There are no driving restrictions within the park.

Parking

There is one parking area for cars at Lockhart Beach Provincial Park, which is located at the day use area. Furthermore, RV campers can park their rigs at their respective campsites in the park. Overnight parking is also available.

Public Transportation

There are no direct public transportation services to Lockhart Beach Provincial Park.

First-come first-served

Lockhart Beach Campground

Lockhart Beach Campground in Lockhart Beach Provincial Park features 18 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. No RV hookups are available at the campground. RV length limit at the campground is 25 ft (8), however vacationers with larger RVs can contact the park to find out if there is space available. All RV campers are required to have their rigs only on the gravel portion of the campsites.

Drinking water taps and pit toilets are available at the campground. Quiet time hours are 10pm to 7am, and generator use is permitted between 9am-11am and 6pm-8pm.

All the campsites are available only on first-come first-served basis.

In-Season

Fishing

Fishing opportunities are available at Lockhart Beach Provincial Park in Kootenay Lake. Fish species that RV campers will enjoy angling for include rainbow trout, kokanee, bull trout, mountain whitefish, burbot, brook trout, white sturgeon, yellow perch, largemouth bass, and kokanee salmon. To fish at the park, an appropriate fishing license is required.

Flora and Fauna

Lockhart Beach Provincial Park, which sits in an area where Lockhart Creek flows into Kootenay Lake, features a lakeside forest that serves as home to various plant life, wildlife, and bird species. Consequently, RV campers who are bird lovers, wildlife observers, and plant identification enthusiasts enjoy rewarding visits to the park.

Hiking/Biking

There are no designated hiking trails at Lockhart Beach Provincial Park, however, there is a scenic hiking trail at the adjacent Lockhart Creek Provincial Park for RV campers to enjoy. Biking opportunities are available for RV campers both at Lockhart Beach Provincial Park and the adjacent Lockhart Creek Provincial Park roads. The use of helmets when riding on the roads is mandatory.

Off-Season

Canoeing/Kayaking

Although Lockhart Beach Provincial Park does not have a boat launch, canoeing and kayaking opportunities are available at the park. This is so because the beach offers access to small canoes and paddle boats. Hence, RV campers can still enjoy paddling on the lake.

Swimming

Swimming opportunities are open to RV campers of all skill levels in Kootenay Lake at Lockhart Beach Provincial Park. The swimming area on the lake is, however, not delineated with buoys, hence RV campers are advised to swim close to the shore of the lake. No lifeguards are on duty at the sandy beach.

Picnicking

Lockhart Beach Provincial Park presents opportunities for RV campers to enjoy picnics at the day use area in the park. Picnickers also get to enjoy the view of the lake while having lunch with family and friends at the park.
