Four days of live music, camping, great food and fun in the sun: Does this sound right up your alley? Load up your RV and head to Arrington, Virginia for the LOCKN’ Music Festival.

Formerly called the Interlocken Music Festival, this four-day music extravaganza is held every year at the Infinity Downs and Oak Ridge Farms. You’ll get to immerse yourself in the incredible beauty of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains while enjoying some great live music and outdoor activities.

The festival was started in 2013 by a group of hardcore music lovers. Since then, it has become a tremendous success and grown by leaps and bounds. Artists like Carlos Santana, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, Wilco, The Black Crowes, and Robert Plant have performed at LOCKN’ over the years.

RVs are welcome, so this event is a great time to rent a campervan and enjoy the festival’s on-site camping options. The festival experience is extended beyond the stage to the food, beverages, and campsites. In addition to world-class music, campers can enjoy hiking, yoga, biking, and other outdoor activities. Festival-goers will have plenty of opportunities to explore the beautiful setting and indulge in the delicious local cuisine.

Tickets

LOCKN' offers a number of ticket and camping options, which go on sale a couple of months before the event. Ticket options range in price from $250 for General Admission (three-day entry) to $2,200 for Super VIP passes (four-day entry). There are special concessions available for students and military personnel. Camping and parking tickets can be purchased separately. The RV camping tickets range from $300 to $3000 depending on the size and number of vehicles.

Transportation

Driving

The LOCKN’ Music Festival is held annually in Arrington. The site is located in Central Virginia amidst the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains. Arrington is close to Washington, DC, about midway between Lynchburg and Charlottesville. There will be festival signs to guide you along the way. Vehicles will be searched upon entering the grounds, so be sure you’re not carrying any prohibited items.

Parking areas

To enjoy a hassle-free entry and parking experience, ensure that all passengers are wearing their wristbands and have your parking pass or camping hang tags displayed. If you do not already have wristbands, you can pick them up at the Festival Box Office. Vehicles must remain parked after arriving at your campsite. One vehicle per campsite is permitted. Additional vehicles may be parked in the day lot with a Day Parking Pass.

Public Transportation

LOCKN’ Music Festival organizers offer shuttle passes from neighboring cities. Shuttle passes vary in price depending on the place of origin and quantity of days chosen. If you decide to stay in Lynchburg or Charlottesville with your RV, you'll have the option to travel to the festival via a shuttle pass. Due to the slightly remote nature of the festival grounds, public transportation options may be limited to the site.

Where to stay

Onsite

Your entry ticket level must match your camping pass level. For instance, a GA event ticket corresponds with GA camping, VIP event ticket with VIP camping and so on. You can only access the campsites if you’ve purchased a LOCKN’ event ticket. You also have the option of bringing your own RV or renting one for the event. A single RV pass is required per vehicle, but every passenger must possess an individual event ticket. Some RV Pass Options come with power hookups. Space is limited, so it’s a good idea to book your pass well ahead of time.

Nearby

You’ll find tons of different camping options in and around the nearby towns of Charlottesville and Lynchburg. Campers may enjoy the ability to include a few additional excursions by camping in the adjacent area. So, if you’d prefer to stay somewhere other than the festival grounds, you can still make sure your transportation to and from the site is hassle-free.

Getting around

It’s pretty convenient to get around the venue on foot. Bringing a bike is a good idea so you can enjoy some of the many trails on the Oak Ridge Farm property. Bicycle riders are encouraged to enjoy the surrounding trails during their stay. However, bikes are not allowed in the main concert site. ATV’s are not allowed anywhere on the property.

What to pack

Clothing

At LOCKN’ you can enjoy your freedom of expression and bring out the unique pieces from your wardrobe. Feel free to wear whatever keeps you l comfortable. Some people opt for t-shirts and shorts while others love letting their creativity run wild. Carry a hat and wear sunscreen since you’re likely to be in the sun all day. Some guests may opt for closed shoes rather than sandals on the terrain and in the crowds.

Gear

If you’re planning to camp out on the grounds be sure to bring necessities like bug spray, toilet paper, toiletries, and flashlights. LOCKN' may be a populated event, but it is held in the heart of nature. It also a good idea to bring a poncho or raincoat so that you will be prepared for sudden showers. You can probably find what you need at one on the general stores on the campgrounds. If you do forget something, neighboring towns are within an hour’s drive.

Health & Safety

You may want to bring a first aid kit with you in your RV, but festival employees are also available to help if needed. Remember to protect yourself with sunscreen during the day and bug spray at night. LOCKN’ is a family-friendly music festival, and illegal drugs, weapons, and glass containers are banned. Most paths and public areas are well-lit at night. However, it’s still important to secure your valuables and keep your vehicle locked at all times.

Where to eat

Cooking

Charcoal or wood fires are prohibited and so are large propane tanks. Portable generators are not allowed, but ones attached to RVs are permitted. You cannot carry any food or coolers into the concert site. It may be most convenient to bring food for any meals that you wish to prepare so that you do not have to leave the festival site.

Restaurants

If you’d like to dine at a restaurant, there are plenty of options in the nearby towns of Charlottesville and Lynchburg. Whether you’re craving world cuisine, comfort food, or just want to grab a quick bite at a fast food outlet, you’re sure to find it a short drive away. Remember to plan ahead regarding driving off-site since you will not be allowed to move vehicles from your campsite. You may want to have one group member leave a vehicle in Day Parking if you plan to eat off-site.

Vendors

Guests will find no shortage of delicious food options at the LOCKN’ Music Festival. You’ll find plenty of food vendors in designated areas around the venue serving up all kinds of mouthwatering cuisine. You also have the option to set up a cashless account by linking your wrist band to your credit card. You can use this to pay for food, drinks, and merchandise.

Safety

Security

Security at LOCKN’ has increased over the years. Festival officials want to ensure that every guest has an enjoyable and safe time at the event. When entering the festival, there are designated lanes for cars and event personnel directing traffic. They also conduct a thorough search of every vehicle to check for prohibited items upon entry.

Weather

Festival-goers can hope for plenty of sunshine and pleasant weather in August at the LOCKN’ Music Festival. If severe weather does occur during the festival, officials will inform guests how to proceed. The celebration is held at a great time of year to visit central Virginia, so bring sun protection, and be prepared with a poncho in case it does rain.

Medical

Special services are available for people with disabilities via the Access Tent. Wheelchairs and other medical devices can be recharged at this point. Remember to have your ADA placard or tag in place if you plan to utilize Accessible Camping and Parking. LOCKN’ keeps a medical services team on standby to help with any emergencies.
