Introduction

Encircling a lagoon and sitting on the peninsula of Kenogamisis Lake, MacLeod Provincial Park is a great place to enjoy refreshing RV vacations. Located along Highway 11, 8 km (5 miles) east of Geraldton, this small provincial park, which was named after an abandoned gold mine, offers RV campers wonderful recreational opportunities that make the park feel like home away from home.

Recreational opportunities available at MacLeod Provincial Park include hiking on the 1 km (0.6 mile) long MacLeod Trail, biking on the park roadways, fishing for pike and walleye, bird viewing, boating, canoeing, and kayaking, picnicking, swimming, nature observation, wildlife and flora viewing, photography, and many more.

MacLeod Provincial Park features 120 RV campsites available on first-come first-served basis only. About 25% of the campsites in the campground are equipped with electric hookup options for RVs. Other facilities and amenities in the park include group camps, comfort stations, showers, flush toilets, boat launch, fish cleaning station, playground, trailer dump station, and parking lot.

Transportation

Driving

Located along Highway 11, 8 km (5 miles) east of Geraldton, Ontario, Macleod Provincial Park is a simple drive-in park that is easy to locate and access by RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles. There is a local road which offers easy navigation to all the campsites in the park, as well as other sites of interest such as the day use area. There are no driving restrictions within the park.

Parking

There is one major parking area in MacLeod Provincial Park for RV campers and visitors to park their cars, trailers, and RVs while on vacation at the park. Alternatively, RV campers can park their rigs at their respective campsites in the campground. Overnight parking is available at MacLeod Provincial Park.

Public Transportation

There are no direct public transportation services to MacLeod Point Provincial Park.

First-come first-served

MacLeod Campground

MacLeod Campground in MacLeod Provincial Park features 120 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. 28 campsites in the campground are equipped with electric hookup options for RVs. RV length limit at the campground is 32 ft (10 m), however, vacationers with larger rigs can call the park ahead to find out if there is space available.

The campsites in the campground are well shaded and amenities available in the campground include water, picnic tables, toilets, showers, dump station, laundry facilities, firewood, and playground.

All the campsites in the campground are available on first-come first-served basis only.

Seasonal activities in MacLeod Provincial Park

In-Season

Hiking/Biking

MacLeod Provincial Park features on easy trail that is 1 km (0.6 mile) long and passes through a Trembling Aspen forest. The tree is the most prominent in the park and RV campers that hike on the trail are treated to scenic views of the tree line. What’s more, a trail guide is available to explain the forest succession in the park to hikers.

In addition to hiking, RV campers can explore the park on bicycles, as long as they stick to the roads and don’t ride the bikes on the trails.

Fishing

Amazing opportunities to enjoy fishing are available at MacLeod Provincial Park, hence RV campers do not miss out on the chance to catch fish in Kenogamisis Lake and Kenogamisis River whenever on vacation at the park. Fish species that anglers can catch at the park are pike and walleye. A fish cleaning station is available in the park.

Birding

Unique bird viewing opportunities are available at MacLeod Provincial Park for RV campers that enjoy the activity. You can expect to bid species such as ovenbirds, red-eyed vireos, broad-winged hawks, northern warblers, and ospreys at the different points in the park, whether along the trail or at the campground. Boating/Canoeing

Thanks to the boat launch site in the park, RV campers can bring their own boats or even rent a boat nearby and enjoy boating on Kenogamisis Lake and Kenogamisis River in MacLeod Provincial Park. The lake, which features many inlets, islands, bays, marshes, is highly pleasurable to explore on boats. Besides, RV campers can enjoy canoeing and paddling on the lake.

Picnicking

The day use area in MacLeod Provincial Park is a great place to enjoy outdoor meals with family and friends while on vacation at the park. Located close to the lake, picnickers enjoy breathtaking views of the lake as they have lunch in the picnic area. Facilities such as picnic tables, grills, fire pits, water, and toilets are available.

Swimming

MacLeod Provincial Park features a sandy beach that is available for RV campers who wish to enjoy swimming or suntanning. Be warned that the water is quite cold, though. It's refreshing on a hot day, but don't expect to spend all day in the water.
