Mohawk Dam
RV Guide

Introduction

Looking for something a little unusual during your RV travels in Ohio? Check out Mohawk Dam. Located in Coshocton County, Mohawk Dam is a dry dam that only will fill with water during flooding conditions. The U.S Corps of Engineers built the dam in 1935 after extensive damage was done to neighboring towns during the early 20th century. Due to flooding in 1937, it was put to use before it was properly completed. The dam is 111 feet high and 2,330 feet long with the capacity to hold 285,000 acre-feet of floodwaters.
Visitors to the dam when the area has not been flooding will be greeted with a deep and wide grass surface that looks unchangeable. Since there is no constant water within Mohawk Dam, there are no recreational activities to be found. However, if you head below the dam, there are plenty to be had in and around the Walhonding River. These include boating, fishing, hunting, and birdwatching.
If you want to stay near the dam in your own or a rented rig, there is a campground located just south of the dam wall that is suitable for RV use. There are 31 sites available for you to call home at the Mohawk Dam Campground, all of which are equipped with electric hookups. Whether this is your first time RV traveling or you are a seasoned veteran, Mohawk Dam is an interesting spot to visit all year round.
