Introduction

Morton Lake Provincial Park surrounds all of Morton Lake and sits on the shores of Mohun Lake, offering RV campers various opportunities for water activities in addition to other amazing recreational activities to enjoy while on RV holiday. Located 27 km (17 miles) northwest of Campbell River in the Sayward Forest, Morton Lake Provincial Park is a place to visit to have sweet and refreshing experiences while on RV vacation. Recreational activities available in the park include hiking and biking, canoeing and kayaking on both Morton Lake and Mohun Lake, flora observation, fishing for Dolly Varden, cutthroat trout, and rainbow trout, swimming, picnicking, nature observation and photography, and many more.

Morton Lake Provincial Park has a campground with 24 campsites available for RVs and tents on reservation and first-come first-served basis. Facilities available at the park include water taps, pit toilets, change house, fish cleaning station, swimming beach, boat launch, day use area with picnic tables, fire grills, and parking lots.

Although Morton Lake Provincial Park was established in 1966, the area was subjected to a devastating fire incident in 1938 which burned down over 300 sq. km (116 sq. miles) of forest surrounding Morton Lake. The traces of this long-ago fire can still be seen today in the newer growth of forest in the lake area.

Transportation

Driving

Located 27 km (17 miles) northwest of Campbell River, Morton Lake is easily accessible by RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles via Highway 19, along Menzies Road through to Morton Lake Road. Driving within the park is also easy as the park features local paved roads that make accessibility to different park areas stress-free. There are no driving restrictions within Morton Lake Provincial Park.

Parking

Three parking areas along the main road in the park are available for RV campers to park their RVs, trailers, and cars while on vacation at the park. Besides, RV campers can also park their rigs at their designated campsites in the park’s campground. Overnight parking is available for RV campers in the park.

There are no direct public transportation services to Morton Lake Provincial Park.

Morton Lake Campground

Morton Lake Campground in Morton Lake Provincial Park features 24 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. There are no hookups available for RVs in the campground. RV length limit at the campground is 32 feet (10 m). Facilities and amenities available at the campground include picnic tables, fire pits, restrooms, waterfront access, swimming beach access, and fish cleaning station. Maximum stay in the campground is 14 days.

12 campsites in the campground are reservable, while 12 campsites are available on first-come first-served basis.

Off-Season

Picnicking

Morton Lake Provincial Park is a popular summertime destination for RV campers for the wonderful picnicking opportunities that are offered, as well as the facilities available for campers to enjoy outdoor meals with family and friends. Just around the picnic area is the sandy beach and warm lake which offers additional recreational opportunities for picnickers. Facilities available in the picnic/day use area include picnic tables, a parking area, and pit toilets.

Swimming

Morton Lake Provincial Park features a fine sandy beach which attracts RV campers that enjoy swimming and sunbathing to the park. No lifeguards are on duty at the beach. Change rooms are available at the beach for use by RV campers before and after enjoying a swim in the warm Morton Lake.

Fishing

Mohun Lake is an excellent spot to fish for Dolly Varden, cutthroat trout, and rainbow trout in Morton Lake, making anglers and RV campers that love to fish visit the park for exciting fishing adventures. A fish cleaning station is available at the park’s campground. An appropriate fishing licence is required for fishing and angling in the park.

Flora

Morton Lake Provincial Park is well-known for its Douglar-fir, hemlock, white pine, and cedar which decorate the park. This is in spite of the devastating fire incident of 1938 that burned down the forests surrounding Morton Lake. These beautiful florae, which are products of both natural regeneration and deliberate planting efforts, make the park a beautiful sight and offers RV campers amazing views.

Canoeing/Kayaking

Canoeing and kayaking on Morton Lake and Mohun Lake are popular activities among RV campers at Morton Lake Provincial Park. On Mohun Lake, RV campers can access the Sayward Canoe Route which is a 47 km (29 mile) paddle and portage circuit. Although no boat launch is available on Morton Lake, a boat launch is available on Mohun Lake where RV campers can launch canoes and small car-top boats. Besides, a natural ramp is available on Mohun Lake for trailered boats.

Hiking/Biking

RV campers love to engage in recreational hiking and biking at Morton Lake Provincial Park as the park features a hiking trail that takes campers from the campground all the way to Andrew Lake, north of the park. Moreover, a beach trail allows campers to walk along, and enjoy, scenic views of Morton Lake. Posted signs are available on the trails to ensure hikers remain safe when hiking. Biking in Morton Lake Provincial Park is permitted only along the roadways in the park and all RV campers that wish to cycle on the road must have bicycle helmets.
