Transportation

Driving

The New Hampshire Motor Speedway grounds are located just south of Shaker State Forest along Highway 106, also known as Rocky Pond Road. The best way to get here is often to either take I-93 from the north or follow along I-393 from the south to reach the area near the speedway. Road alerts can be viewed via New England 511 online or by phone.

Parking areas

General parking can be found through both the north and south entrances. These spots are free and are given out on a first-come, first-serve basis. Premium parking is available near the NHMS main office by the grandstands for a fee. RV drivers will find their camping spots located behind the speedway itself, away from Highway 106.

Public Transportation

The New Hampshire Motor Speedway often works with local transportation to help reduce stress getting to and from the speedway. For guests using private transportation services, NHMS management recommends visitors be dropped off near the main entrance by the grandstands.

Where to stay

Onsite

Of the RV campgrounds on the grounds, some are completely dry, with generator use permitted as long as it stays under 75 decibels during the night, and others offer some amenities. More prestigious spots along with turn three, infield, and the trackside terrace offer electric, water, and sewer hookups. You must reserve a spot along with having a ticket to the race to stay in the campgrounds.

Nearby

If you want some space between your RV and the speedway, then you have many options in the greater Loudon area. Several campgrounds are located to the south of NHMS along I-393, with more farther to the west just off of I-89. What these grounds offer can vary, so make sure to check ahead of time. In addition, Bear Brook State Park and Mt. Sunapee State Park have offered camping in the past, but keep in mind that other state forests in the area may be for day use only.

Getting around

The New Hampshire Motor Speedway is 1,200 acres in total, with ground divided into parking lots, campgrounds, and the track itself. Trams and golf carts shuttle visitors to the grandstand area. Motorized devices such as ATVs, golf carts, and scooters, are not permitted on the speedway grounds. Bikes are allowed in some areas.

What to pack

Clothing

The majority of the prominent NASCAR events happen during the summer months, and you can expect it to be warm. Keep your clothing light yet protective enough to avoid sunburn. This means things like sleeved shirts and shorts for the race itself. If you plan on leaving the campgrounds or heading into one of the nearby state forests or parks, you'll want to pack accordingly for your adventures there as well.

Gear

To make your racetrack experience better, you may want to think about having a few comfort items. Seat cushions, sunglasses, a hat, and a ticket lanyard will help you keep comfortable. Remember to bring a scanner and headphones so that you can hear what is happening on the track and protect your ears at the same time. While the facilities are more than outfitted with food and drinks, guests are permitted to bring a cooler into the stands if it fits the allowed dimensions.

Health & Safety

Every RV should have some sort of first aid kit with a few basic medications. If you are bringing a cooler, make sure to include a couple of bottles of water to keep you hydrated. Sunscreen and bug spray will help protect you against the environment, while proper ear protection will defend your ears against the zipping of cars on the track.

Where to eat

Cooking

All cooking styles must remain attended at all times, whether in your RV kitchen or by a fire outside. If you want to make s'mores or any other campfire favorite, remember to inquire with the NHMS staff to see if there is a burn ban in effect at that time. Regulations for what can be burned include using only clean, local firewood.

Restaurants

If you want to step out of the track and grab some food, you have a few options to choose from within a 10 to 20-minute drive of the speedway. The best direction to go is south down Highway 106 which offers a couple of local eateries. Farther down, along US 202, are several more restaurants ranging from barbeque, Italian, and seafood.

Vendors

A vendor mall is located near the track which hosts a variety of memorabilia, food, and drinks. Inside the track, visitors will be able to choose from a selection of speedway grub. Vendors often rotate depending on the event, with lot S1 set up for vendor tents.

Safety

Security

While bags and coolers under a certain size are permitted in the grandstands area, they are subject to search by personnel. Pets, with the exception of service animals, are not permitted along with strollers, glass containers, and umbrellas. Anything deemed dangerous like fireworks, weapons of any type, and laser pointers will be confiscated.

Weather

Weather can vary during the summer months, with heavy showers leading to cancellation. Because of this possibility, the speedway grounds are part of the SMI weather guarantee. If a NASCAR race is postponed than fans are given the opportunity to get a credit toward a future NASCAR race at any of the associated Speedway Motorsports facilities.

Medical

First aid facilities are located on the speedway grounds. Located just outside of the track is a first aid center, with associated medical professionals on hand in case of emergency. Located approximately 15 to 30 minutes away by vehicle and near Highway 202 are a couple of medical centers and several pharmacy options.
