Event information

Northern Nights Music Festival is an annual event that takes place in Northern California, which is centered around EDM music. The festival is held in Cook’s Valley Campground, a scenic venue with beautiful water holes and towering redwood trees. Festivities take place over three days.

Although the music played at the festival is primarily EDM, the eclectic lineup features other musical genres, as well. Several unique stages are set up throughout the venue. One of the highlights of the event is the River Stage, where large parties are held right on the river. Guests swim or float by on inflatable rafts while top DJs bring the setting alive with their tunes.

Over 40 musicians and bands perform at the Northern Nights Music Festival. Fuego, Minnesota, Berner, Lee Reynolds, Beats Antique, The Floozies, Thomas Jack, Gold Panda, The Polish Ambassador, Big Wild, Gorgon City, and Sage The Gemini are some of the artists who have performed at the event in the past.

There are a number of camping options available to festival-goers who’d like to keep the party going from dusk to dawn. In addition to the music, visitors can enjoy installations by talented artists, live art, yoga sessions, and delicious food.

Tickets

Northern Nights is only open to guests above the age of 18. Guests can choose between General Admission and VIP tickets. The VIP passes include perks like private restrooms, special viewing areas, and an exclusive bar. Transportation

Driving

Cook’s Valley Campground lies on the border of Humboldt and Mendocino counties. The drive is about three and a half hours from San Francisco. Although it is relatively remote, the venue is easy to access by car or RV since it is close to Highway 101. There will be festival signs to guide you along the way.

Parking areas

Most guests choose to camp at the venue since it is a bit out of the way. If you plan on doing this, you can drive your vehicle directly to your designated camping area and park there for the weekend. If you require just day parking, its a good idea to contact the Northern Nights organizers in advance.

Public Transportation

Due to the venue’s remote location, public transport options like buses and trains may be hard to come by. Utilizing your own transportation will be your best bet to and from the Cooks Valley Campground. Carpooling with other festival-goers is also a great option. You can not only save money but also cut down your environmental footprint.

Where to stay

Onsite

Camping on site is highly recommended to take in the natural beauty of the festival venue. It is within walking distance of the beautiful Eel River. An RV camping pass will get you access to a 10ft x 30ft space at Northern Nightss. The site offers only primitive RV camping, and no hookups are available. There is not a separate ADA camping area but facilities are available.

Nearby

For camping options nearby, Richardson Grove State Park rests about a mile north of the Cook Valley Campground. The Benbow Lake State Recreation Area is another option that is about 7 miles away. If you’re looking for a campsite with a few more creature comforts, the nearest RV park, Benbow KOA, is less than 10 miles away. It comes with facilities like full hookups, showers, WiFi, and laundry services.

Getting around

Bicycles, golf carts, scooters, and other motorized vehicles will not be allowed on the grounds. The terrain may be rocky or grassy in some parts of the venue. Patrons with disabilities may require motorized wheelchairs or assistance. They will also be allowed to use three or four-wheeled scooters. There are elevated viewing areas for ADA guests.

What to pack

Clothing

Stay cool through the day in lightweight, breathable clothing. Comfortable, flat footwear is recommended. It can get quite cold after the sun sets, so carry a warm jacket and store some blankets in your RV. Don’t forget to pack your workout gear if you plan on taking part in the yoga sessions. Swimwear and water clothes will be items to remember for this event on the Eel River.

Gear

Sunscreen, a hat, and bug spray are essentials. Northern Nights Music Festival is an 18+ event. So be sure to take a valid ID to pick up your tickets or to purchase alcohol. Pack all your camping gear and include plenty of snacks and drinks. Carry reusable plates, utensils, and water bottles.

Health & Safety

Drink plenty of water and protect yourself from the sun. Pets are not allowed anywhere on the grounds. Ensure that your sunscreen and other skincare products are biodegradable and water-friendly. Northern Nights encourages guests to avoid polluting the Eel River and requests that you not leave anything behind at your campsite.

Where to eat

Cooking

Cooking is allowed at your campsite, but you’ll need to use a small portable stove or the appliances in your RV. Campfires, BBQs, fireworks, or open fires of any kind are prohibited. The area is prone to wildfires, so this rule is strictly enforced. Since there will be no hookups at the Cook Valley Campground, make sure you have enough fuel and water before starting on your trip.

Restaurants

You’ll find several good restaurants, pubs, bars, and diners within a 20-mile radius. The nearby town of Garberville has plenty of small family-owned eateries serving up delicious food. If you’re looking for something fast and familiar, many of the large restaurant chains have branches in Garberville north along Highway 101.

Vendors

There will be a diverse range of food options available at Northern Nights. From fast food like burgers and hotdogs to more exotic wraps and bowls, you’ll find it here. For patrons who have dietary restrictions or preferences, there will be plenty of gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian food available. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be on sale as well.

Safety

Security

Security personnel will be stationed throughout the Cook Valley Campground. The camping areas will have around the clock security. Bags and vehicles will be searched before entry, so make sure you’re not carrying any prohibited items like products packed in glass containers. Professional recording gear or unauthorized sound equipment will not be allowed.

Weather

Northern Nights Music Festival is a rain or shine event, so no exchanges or refunds will be offered. Visitors often enjoy warm and sunny days in July. However, the weather can be unpredictable, so go prepared for rain. Make sure all your camping gear is waterproof and carry a rain poncho just in case the clouds do offer some moisture.

Medical

Medical assistance and information will be available at the first aid station on site. If you need immediate help, you can flag down one of the volunteers or Northern Nights Staff. Portable restrooms, including ADA compliant facilities, will be present throughout the venue. Certified service animals will be allowed into the venue.
