Olive Creek Lake has a total of 612 acres of property and water, which is situated just outside the town of Kramer NE. Centrally located near to one of Nebraska's premier cities, Lincoln, families can enjoy the peace and quiet of the country with the shopping, culture, and nightlife of the big city during a stay here.
Olive Creek Lake enjoys an abundance of fish species, including largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish, making it an excellent spot for the angling enthusiast looking for a new place to practice their favorite sport. The primitive style camping conditions are also a big draw for those who like to reconnect with nature and enjoy getting back to the basics. This recreational area is a popular spot for hunting water birds and deer as well.
The crystal clear waters of Olive Creek Lake empty into Olive Branch Creek, a few miles downstream. The region is home to two different picnic areas. A state park permit is required to visit Olive Creek Lake and for all tent or RV stays.

Transportation

Driving

An extremely remote location, Olive Creek Lake is easily accessible via a direct route comprised of country roads. The highways are of two lane construction and are kept in decent condition. To ensure access to this recreational area during winter, every effort is made to keep the roads free from snow and ice during the winter months. A lot of wildlife is found in this region, and occasionally, they do make their way onto the highways. Remain alert when driving to avoid an accident.

Parking

Parking can be found in several different lots throughout the grounds as well as at the campgrounds.

There is no public transportation to Olive Creek Lake.

Reservations camping

Wagon Train State Recreation Area

Open for RV and tent camping between May through September each year, Wagon Train State Recreation Area Campground offers 108 campsites by reservation only. There are 108 sites in total including 28 with power hookups.

A very dog-friendly camping facility, your dog may join you at this park but must remain on a leash.

The on-site amenities include picnic tables, barbecues, drinking water, toilets, a waste disposal station, and a playground.

A state park permit is required for all RV stays.

First-come first-served

Olive Creek Lake Recreational Area Campground

Olive Creek Lake Recreational Area Campground offers primitive style camping via its 50 campsites which are available with no added amenities. Though reservations are accepted, the sites are usually on a first-come, first-served basis. Dogs are warmly welcomed to join their families on the grounds of this popular rural camping facility but must remain leashed.

Drinking water is available on the premises as are vault toilets. Campfires are permitted on the grounds as well.

A state park permit is required for all RV stays.

In-Season

Picnicking

When the sun is high in the sky, and everything is in full bloom, there is nothing like enjoying a picnic lunch at Olive Creek Lake and its surrounding recreational area. For the comfort of all visitors, there are 22 picnic tables and 24 grills for the public to use. Bring a packed lunch from home or pack a basket, which includes some meat to throw on the grill.
Fancy a more rustic picnic locale? You can lay out a blanket in the midst of the woods or pull up a piece of sand from which to view the lake.
Bring along your pooch on your picnic adventure if you like, but please keep them leashed at all times.

Boating

Water sports recreation is extremely popular at Olive Creek Lake in the summer months. The property is home to one boat ramp and two docks, making it the perfect place to launch your pleasurecraft, canoe, or kayak into the water for a day of adventure on the lake.

All types of boats are permitted at this beloved recreational area; however, it is important to note that park officials do enforce a speed limit of no more than five miles per hour.

Since this area is rather remote, you'll want to bring along drinks and snacks from home to ensure you have access to nutrition when the mood strikes.

Beachcombing

What's more relaxing than taking a leisurely stroll along a sandy shore? With four miles of beautiful coastline to meander, you will not want for a place to unwind and conduct a search for seaside treasures to take home as a reminder of your vacation at Olive Creek Lake.
Among the souvenirs you may find are sea glass, shells, and even unusual pieces of particularly beautiful driftwood, pebbles, and rocks.
There is quite a bit of sand at this beach, affording you the opportunity to walk barefoot if the mood strikes.

Off-Season

Hiking

For those who love to hike, a trip to Olive Creek Lake will not disappoint. Grab your best pair of hiking shoes and lots of bottled water and set out to discover the hidden treasure found at this idyllic hiking haven.
The grounds consist of naturally landscaped areas, which are a treasure trove of geographical features for you to enjoy. You will traverse gently rolling hills and meander along sandy shorelines and through the abundant forest and lush plant life.
If the mood strikes, follow one of the well-marked hiking trails or chart a course all your own.

Hunting

With 437 acres of rich wooded area that overflows with many different types of prey, Olive Creek Lake is a haven for those who love to hunt. Among the species of game animals found here include turkey and a wide variety of water birds.
Hunting is only permitted in season, and a license is required.
Be sure to dress in orange when out on a hunt, so that you remain visible to other hunters. Certain rules governing the hunting of each type of animal apply. Check the park website to ensure you are aware of all pertinent regulations.

Fishing

Olive Creek Lake is kept well-stocked with many different types of fish, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing afternoon of angling. Among the most popular species found here include largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie, and channel catfish.
Fish from the lake's banks or paddle out in your canoe and try your hand at reeling in the catch of the day. A fishing license is required for any angling done in Nebraska waters.
