Driving

Jefferson is in a forested, mountainous region of New Hampshire. Getting to Santa’s Village requires a beautiful, but potentially slow-going, route through a rural area. The attraction is located about 100 miles from Concord, New Hampshire, 165 miles from Boston, Massachusetts, and 115 miles from Portland, Maine.

Parking areas

Parking is free at Santa's Village. If traveling here in your RV, park in the lot across the street that is designated for oversized vehicles. Show up early during the summer months to ensure you get a spot, and ask the employees in the parking lot for directions if you get confused.

Public Transportation

Public transportation is very limited in the Jefferson area, so your best option is to drive yourself to Santa’s Village in either RV or car. Rideshare and taxis are also very limited. You may inquire about shuttle services via tour companies or your campground, but as a general rule of thumb, you may want to plan on driving.

There is no RV camping on site at Santa’s Village. Fortunately, the White Mountain National Forest is an RV paradise complete with a mix of developed campgrounds with modern amenities and rustic dry camping options that are prized for their solitude, proximity to hiking trails, and truly excellent mountain views.

Santa’s Village is not as large as the big-name theme parks, but you should still plan on plenty of walking. The venue does have wheelchairs available to those who need them. These are free of charge. There are also motorized scooters available for rent at a cost of approximately $25 a day. Reserve the latter in advance.

Clothing

Pack clothing that’s appropriate for a day outside on your feet. If you’re planning on partaking in water rides, pack a swimsuit or something that dries easily. Also, bring clothes that are appropriate for mountain adventures, such as hiking boots, if you’re planning on hitting the trails.

Gear

Bring your camping essentials, including outdoor seating, flashlights, games, and cookware to the campground. When visiting Santa’s Village, bring cash for vendors, cell phones, portable chargers, and anything else you need for a fun day outside at the park. Keep in mind that Santa’s Village rents lockers for $5 to $10.

Health & Safety

You will be outside for most of the time at Santa’s Village, so sunscreen is advisable. You may also want to bring antibacterial hand gel, especially if you’re planning on feeding the reindeer. Have bug spray for the campground, as well as toiletries, basic first aid items, and any prescriptions you require.

Cooking rules vary by season and by the campground. Check with your campground before stocking up on fuel and firewood. While you cannot cook inside Santa’s Village, you can bring outside food into the park and enjoy lunch at a picnic table. Alcohol is not permitted in the park. Look for grocery stores in Lancaster, New Hampshire, which is approximately seven miles from Jefferson.

For a wider variety, head to Lancaster or Whitefield. Look for food prepared with the region in mind, including salads with local produce and seafood from the small New Hampshire coastline.

Staff members are present at Santa’s Village to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience. As such, there may be security screenings. Weapons are not permitted inside. Alcohol is also not allowed. Be sure to lock your RV or vehicle when parking at Santa’s Village and leave valuable in the on-site lockers.

Weather

Jefferson is in the White Mountains, where the weather can change rapidly. If visiting in the summer, expect warm days in the 70s and 80s plus plenty of humidity. Afternoon thunderstorms can occur, and high winds are common at higher elevations. Outside of basic medical supplies, emergency medical resources may be limited at Santa’s Village. The closest hospitals are in Lancaster, Littleton, and Berlin. Travelers can find pharmacies in Lancaster and Gorham. Small local stores in Jefferson may have some over the counter items like aspirin and band-aids.
