Transportation

Driving

Spring Awakening is held in the fabulous “windy city.” Set your GPS to the coordinates of the park gates and get ready for a wild weekend! The venue is just 30 miles outside of downtown Chicago and is easily found in the Northern suburbs of the city. You may encounter toll roads along the route, so be prepared for that as you head to the 27-acre venue.

Parking areas

Remember to purchase your parking pass when you order your festival ticket. Options are General Parking and Preferred Parking, which is the closest lot. Weekend or daily passes are obtainable. You will need to show your parking pass upon arrival each day when you arrive so be sure to keep the pass handy!

Public Transportation

Festival organizers have made it a breeze for attendees who want to use public transportation. Free shuttles will ferry you with ease from the metro train. The shuttles, once you exit the train, are complimentary of the festival and are a quick and easy alternative for those who would rather leave the wheels at the campsite.

Where to stay

Onsite

There is no onsite camping or overnight parking at Spring Awakening. However, the glorious outdoors awaits less than an hour from the melodious action of the festival. Change the guitar riffs and electronic beat for the sound of a rippling brook and the song of a majestic owl.

Nearby

Travel less than an hour, or more if you have the urge to venture outside the city to find the campground that suits you best. From state parks to private campgrounds, the region has it all. You can choose to camp or stay in the comfort of your RV; several campsites offer electricity hookups, flush toilets, swimming pools, firewood, and even wireless internet!

Getting around

With 27 acres of festival ground to explore, you best bring your most comfy pair of walking shoes! You can’t bring your hoverboard, ATV, scooter or any other mode of transport whether on two wheels or four. The list of forbidden vehicles includes push carts, so leave those at home as well and be prepared to walk and dance your way through the weekend.

What to pack

Clothing

A light breeze is typical in the windy city keeping it true to its namesake, but under the sunny skies of the burbs, you will want to be careful and dress for the temperatures and humidity that often heat up a summer music festival. Attendees of Spring Awakening should wear light clothing, ensuring that a hat is part of the daily wardrobe. Make it fun but functional, and you won’t regret the decision! Bring a sweater for the evenings, and because the area is known for summertime showers, a rain poncho is strongly recommended!

Gear

The Spring Awakening website has an extensive list of what you cannot carry onto the grounds. Be sure to take a look at the list so that you do not bring a prohibited item (sports equipment, large umbrellas, and chairs are on the “do not bring it list,” for example). A refillable water bottle is a must as are sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, and binoculars so that you can see all that there is to see on the expansive grounds!

Health & Safety

Spring Awakening organizers have planned well! Take advantage of designated cooling areas if necessary. There is a “celebrate safe” booth where you can pick up free electrolyte packs to add to your water bottle; keep your eye on your hydration and that of your friends. Organizers also ask that you assist other music lovers if you see that someone looks unwell. If you have a certified service animal, alert the festival planners ahead of time that you will be bringing your companion along. Remember to keep them hydrated and cool, too!

Where to eat

Cooking

Have a hearty and healthy breakfast before leaving the campground or hotel. There are no grills of any kind permitted on site at Spring Awakening, and no outside food or drinks are allowed. In between dance sets, treat yourself to delicious food for purchase served up Chicago style!

Restaurants

Tasty fare is at your fingertips in very close proximity to the Spring Awakening festival if you choose to dine before entering the gates of the dance party. Are you a lover of sticky wings, sandwiches, pizza cooked to perfection, steak as you like it, or snacks like soft pretzels? Say no more; this is just a primer of the food available minutes from the event.

Vendors

Your wristband is strictly for entry only and can be scanned only once a day meaning you cannot re-enter until the next day if you leave. Inside the festival grounds, there are ATMs for the cash payment of food, drinks, and merchandise. If you prefer not to carry money on your person, credit cards are accepted by most food and vendor stalls. Support local businesses by patronizing the vendors and remember, you will enjoy the exhilarating stage performances much more on a full stomach!

Safety

Security

Zero tolerance is the status for drug use or possession. Be prepared to empty your bags and perhaps to even have a full pat down as you enter the gates. Narcotics officers and police will be on duty at all times to ensure the safety of all concert-goers. Present your 21+ government issued ID to get a wristband if you choose to have an alcoholic drink. Spring Awakening is a celebration that thousands attend every year. Know where your friends are at all times and stick together for a safe and secure experience.

Weather

The city of Chicago is notorious for its unsettled weather. It is a rain or shine event! Of course, sunshine and great music go very well together, but in the event of weather that presents a danger, the stage shows will have to stop without the issue of refunds. Be prepared for all eventualities. Apply sunscreen multiple times a day and bring rain gear just in case.

Medical

Spring Awakening has a qualified Health & Safety Team that will be patrolling the grounds over the three days. Look for the medical stations marked with a red cross so that you know where they are if you need assistance. Feel free to flag a member of the personnel down at any time; every medical need is considered important at this event.
