Located in New Brunswick’s beautiful Appalachian Mountain region and offering many different recreational experiences, Sugarloaf Provincial Park is the perfect destination for a family-friendly RV getaway or wilderness adventure. First opened in 1972, Sugarloaf Provincial Park has become known as a northern New Brunswick gem and attracts people from all over who love the great outdoors.
The park is a great place to visit at any time of the year as there are different activities available depending on the season. The glorious late Devonian volcano known as Sugarloaf Mountain greets visitors as you enter the park. This beast is available for you to explore, whether that be in summer when you can hike up the mountain or in winter when you can bust out the skis and ride down it.
The park is also a very popular biking destination due to it having Atlantic Canada’s only lift-service bike park, which has awards for being the best bike park in Eastern Canada. Other popular activities include playing tennis, picnicking, hanging out at Pritchard Lake or birding. Sugarloaf Provincial Park also has a restaurant if you want to spoil yourself after a hard day outdoors.
If you fancy staying in your RV at Sugarloaf Provincial Park you will be happy to know that the park has a fantastic campground that features 76 RV friendly sites. Eight of these sites contain full hookups, 57 have electrical connections and 11 are primitive. Peak season at Sugarloaf Provincial Park runs from May until September.

Driving
Sugarloaf Provincial Park is located in far northern New Brunswick and is right near the border of Quebec and the town of Campbelltown. The park has one main entry and exit point off NB-270 but you can also make your way to the park through Terry Fox Memorial Trail that can be found near the hospital.
Services and amenities are also located very close by as the town of Campbelltown is just to the north of the park. Here is where you will find the closest shopping opportunities to the park, so stock up on any forgotten supplies if you need to. Other towns close by to Sugarloaf Provincial Park include Pointe-à-la-Croix (around four and a half miles or seven kms away), Matapédia (around 13 miles or 22kms away) and Dalhousie (around 18 miles away or 30kms) . Bathurst is the closest major city to the park and can be found around 69 miles (111km) to the south-east.
Due to the close location of the park to Campbelltown accessing the park should be very easy and straightforward. The roads are very well maintained and are also very wide. During the winter you may have more trouble depending on the snow conditions. If you do plan on visiting the park during winter make sure you call the park in advance to confirm that it is open.

Sugarloaf Provincial Park Campground
Sugarloaf Provincial Park Campground is located in a lovely wooded area near the base of Sugarloaf Mountain. The campground is ver popular due to its large number of sites and amenities that are all RV friendly. There are 76 RV sites with eight of these containing full hookups, 57 have electrical connections and 11 are primitive.
The amenities at Sugarloaf Provincial Park Campground are all kept in very good condition and include a comfort station with showers, toilets, washer and dryer, kitchen area, sinks, tables and a wood stove. There are also water collection points scattered throughout the campground, a playground and dump station. Pets are welcome at Sugarloaf Provincial Park Campground but they must be leashed at all times.
Reservations are encouraged due to the popularity of the campground. You can make a reservation online or by calling the park office. The campground closes for the winter in September and re-opens in May.

Off-Season
Cross Country Skiing
For those who love cross country skiing don't worry, you aren't left out either. There is also a cross country skiing club that operates during the snow season. Montagnards Cross Country Ski Club has several groomed trails that you can make the most of, along with a full schedule of fun activities for people of all ages. You can also find rentals at Montagnards Cross Country Ski Club along with any information that you will need to know before you begin skiing.
Ski Resort
Once the snow starts to fall within Sugarloaf Provincial Park the terrain transforms into a winter wonderland. Known as Sugarloaf Provincial Park Ski Resort, the park has its own ski resort that provides 12 different downhill ski trails for you to enjoy that ranging from beginner to expert. Along with the skiing trails there is also a snowboard terrain park along with rentals for the the equipment that you will need to have a great day out on the slopes.
Hiking
Sugarloaf Provincial Park offers 15 miles (25 kms) of hiking trails for you to adventure and explore during your stay. One of the most popular trails is the Sugarloaf Mountain Trail that will take you from the bottom to the top of the mountain. Once you reach the top there is a viewing platform that will allow you to have a panoramic view you will never forgot. Another popular trail is the Terry Fox Trail which takes hikers all the way around the base of the mountain.
In-Season
Picnicking
There is nothing better than relaxing on a hot summer day than by packing a picnic and enjoying the great outdoors. There are three different picnic areas within the park that feature some great amenities, including picnic tables, water collection points, shaded areas and disability access. The most popular picnic area is the main one that is near the tennis courts and chairlift. None of the picnic tables or shelters are reservable so they are first come, first served.
Bike Park
Sugarloaf Provincial Park is Atlantic Canada’s only lift-service bike park and was designed and built by Whistler’s Gravity Logic and is a very popular biking destination throughout the summer. The bike park offers something for everyone with different terrain for each skill levels. For those who are experienced the trails are featured packed with burms, table tops, drops, step ups and other wooden ramps. The bike park is only open during the summer time so bear that in mind if you are visiting the park to use it.
Tennis
Tennis is a family friendly activity that is a big hit for visitors to Sugarloaf Provincial Park. In total there are four scenic tennis courts next to the playground that you can use free of charge. If you don't have any racquets or tennis balls don't worry as there is equipment available for you to borrow for free. The courts cannot be reserved so if you want to use them, make sure that you arrive early to avoid disappointment.
