Introduction

Sitting in the Fraser Basin in North Central British Columbia, in the transition area between the dry Chilcotin Plateau to the west, and the wetter Quesnel Highlands to the east, is Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park, a RV holiday paradise. Located 11 km (7 miles) north of Quesnel on the Cariboo Highway 97, this provincial park features more than 100 RV campsites available on reservations and first-come first-served basis.

Facilities and amenities at Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park include day use/picnic area with fire grills and picnic tables, as well as campgrounds equipped with water and garbage, water taps, restrooms with showers, trails, boat launch access, playground, dump station, and a parking lot.

Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park is a popular recreational destination for RV campers thanks to its large picnic area, three sandy beaches, attractive shaded treed campsites, and other facilities available. Recreational activities to enjoy at Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park include hiking, biking, flora and fauna observation, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, waterskiing, and many more.

Established in 1962, Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park has long been as a recreational destination for tourists, residents, and RV campers. The name of the park derives from the milepost on the Pacific Great Eastern Railway that stood in the area in the early 1900s.

Driving

Located 11 km (7 miles) north of Quesnel on the Cariboo Highway 97, British Columbia, Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park is easy to access by RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles. The campgrounds in the park are connected by paved roads that offer easy navigation for RV campers in their rigs. There are no driving restrictions within the park.

Parking

There is one major parking area for RVs, trailers, and cars in Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park, and you’ll find this parking lot around Lakeside Campground. Besides this parking lot, however, RV campers can park their rigs at their respective campsites while on vacation at Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park.

There are no direct public transportation services to Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park.

First-come first-served

Touring Campground

Touring Campground in Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park features 46 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. There are no RV hookups available at the campground. RV length limit at the campground is 32 feet (10 m), however RV vacationers with larger rigs can call the park ahead to find out if space is available. Amenities in the campground include water and garbage, wheelchair accessible areas, trailheads, and Information Center.

Generator use is only permitted between 9am – 11am, and 6pm – 8pm. Quiet time is between 10pm and 7am. Alcohol is permitted only within the campsites of the registered campers. Tents and equipment must be confined to the gravel portion of the campsite.

All the campsites in the campground are on first-come first-served basis.

Alternate camping

Lakeside Campground

Lakeside Campground in Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park features 60 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs and tents. There are no RV hookups available at the campground. RV length limit at the campground is 32 feet (10 m), however RV vacationers with larger rigs can call the park ahead to find out if space is available. Amenities in the campground include water and garbage, water taps, restrooms with showers, trails, boat launch access, and a parking lot.

Off-Season

Swimming

RV campers enjoy swimming at any of the three long sandy beaches with two buoyed off swim areas in Ten Mile Lake Provincial park. The beaches are located around the day-use/picnic area which features picnic tables, pit toilets, covered shelter, and change houses. There are no lifeguards on duty at Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park.

Winter Activities

Water skiing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing opportunities are available at Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park for RV campers to enjoy during winter. For RV campers who wish to enjoy cross-country skiing at the park, there are about 10 km (6 miles) of trails to enjoy, besides the ice skating possibilities available in the park.

Fishing

RV campers engage in fishing on Ten Mile Lake in Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park where shore casting is possible from boats on the lake. Rainbow trout is commonly found in the lake, especially in spring and summer. All anglers and campers in the park are required to have an appropriate fishing license to fish on the lake in the park. Ice fishing opportunities are also available in the park.

Boating/Canoeing

Boating, canoeing, and kayaking are popular recreational activities for RV campers to enjoy at Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park. Ten Mile Lake is just perfect for enjoying these water activities in the park, particularly as the park features a boat launch ramp at the entrance of Lakeside Campground.

Flora and Fauna

Various resplendent flora and beautiful fauna are present in Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park. You’ll find flora species such as white spruce, trembling aspen, Douglas-fir, lodgepole pine, and shrubs like red osier dogwood and saskatoon at the park. These flowers, shrubs, and trees are part of the natural heritage of Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park. Additionally, beavers and waterfowls are very common in the park.

Hiking/Biking

Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park features approximately 10 km (6 miles) of hiking trails which are popular among RV campers at the park. The trails take hikers through the natural features and scenic spots in the park, as well as through the campground, and campers get to see a series of beaver dams and a beaver lodge along the trails. Furthermore, there are nest boxes and platforms located around the pond along the trail in the park. The hiking trails in the park have regulations for RV campers who wish to bike along them, including yielding the right-of-way to hikers and having helmets on.
