About Robert Gage
Hi all. We started On the Trail Adventures Inc for outdoor enthusiasts like us. Our love of the mountains, backpacking, surfing, kayaking and pretty much anything outside cities inspired us to build rustic vans and share them with the public. Rob is a California boy while Luz hales from Colombia. We are both health care professionals, grandparents, trail bums and mountain goats (not necessarily in that order). We have melded our lifelong hobbies into our van building: carpentry, wood carving, graphic design, backpacking, mosaic tiling, sewing and more. My daughter picked out this van because of its obvious charm - a mobile cabin in the woods! We had a wonderful 4 days. Everything we needed was there, using the van was simple - and if it wasn't, Robert had detailed everything in a set of videos loaded to a small tablet - the van was a breeze to drive, and having a stove was an unexpected delight. I have thought this was an unnecessary luxury until I had fresh bread with my eggs and coffee in the morning. I appreciated the length of the van as at 19ft it was parked easily and permitted at 'tent only' sites in the park. Thanks for a fun trip!

Thoughtfully designed and comfortably cozy, Bear has everything you need for a getaway in nature. Robert was a great host and I highly recommend.

The trip on Rob’s van camper was one for the books! Everything was thought of and they were even able to install a third seat for our car seat and provided some fun coloring books for the trip! Highly recommend 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Rob and Luz were amazing hosts and their van is a work of art. It is an Airbnb on wheels, I’ve never seen anything like it. They thought of everything you could possibly need to ride in style and comfort. Fully functioning shower, toilet, kitchen, heating, air, power, water, shade, chairs, tables, all the necessities and more. They are pet friendly and let us bring our pitbull on his first camping trip. The best feature is the wooden deck they built. It’s on top of the van and is the chillest spot ever and will make whatever view you have even better. Your camping neighbors will be envious. 10/10 will rent again.

What an incredible experience on our first outdoorsy trip! The Bear Promaster was so awesome and exceeded any expectations we could have had! This Camper van has it ALL!! Even more than we could have thought of they did! Rob and Luz were fantastic and made everything as smooth as could be and the van is so beautifully detailed it made our trip a dream, we will definitely take the Bear Promaster back out and appreciate how easy they made everything! Thank you so much, you guys have made a gem, until next time!

We had a great trip to Flagstaff AZ. Van worked fantastic and is very well equipped and comfortable. We had some rain on our trip but wit a couple hours of sun each day the solar system took care of our needs. It is great to not need plug in power a generator. Thank you Rob and Luz

Some highlights features include: rooftop deck, updated technology , full kitchen including an oven! Abundant storage space and more.
We’ve rented camper vans from other companies, Rob and Lu were a joy and enhanced our experience. Easy pick up drop off. On cal for anything you need.

Beautiful van, clean, comfortable, very well stocked for a trip. The owners have videos that explain how everything operates, and were quick to answer any questions we couldn't figure out. Couldn't ask for a better three day trip, and that was in the rain! Will definitely be renting again.

Just a great experience with Robert and Luz. Their custom RV had everything we needed and it was so cozy and comfortable. Great features inside and out and made for a special trip. Robert was quick to respond to any questions we had and he and Luz made sure we had a personalized and special experience. We felt at home in the Bear! A great Halloween weekend trip. We even had a Jack 'O Latern sky. Thank you!

We had an amazing trip with the “Bear Necessities” campervan! But don’t let the name fool you, because you won’t find a more intuitively designed campervan anywhere else. The van had everything we needed and more, including an incredible rooftop deck! The photos on the booking page do not do the campervan justice. From the labor of love design to the numerous features, it really was unlike any of the other campervans I have enjoyed in the past.
