We are used to traveling here in Alaska with one of our rigs so we understand and appreciate the ability of packing light, bringing only the necessities and having the ability to rent a vehicle equipped for our Adventure and Travel :) We know how difficult it can be for making your dream trip to Alaska a reality and we strive to give you the Best base camp we can fully equipped with whatever your adventurous heart desires. We had an absolutely amazing time renting Henry for our first trip to Alaska! Kevin & Jodi Rae are great and they e done an amazing job getting this rig ready so it’s everything we’d possibly need while driving around Alaska.

A great experience with the Green Machine!Kevin is awesome! We had everything we needed and Kevin was communicative and very accommodating. He was quick to give really nice recommendations and offer support. He made everything feel effortless and easy. This truck took us to many places and felt like a comfy home on the road. It had all the big and small details you would need to camp. The two of us enjoyed ourselves so much in this vehicle it was sad to say goodbye. The Green Machine definitely made our Alaska trip memorable!

Amazing experience! Our 1st vanlife adventure & loved it. Would rent Hugo again!You will Love Hugo! He is a super reliable beast, AWD, diesel powered, great fuel economy(18 - 19 mpg), battery power to spare. Runs great, easy to drive & park - similar to pick up truck. He’s like a loyal musk ox and will take u from Palmer to the North Pole (& Homer & Seward) with ease. 🤣 Cozy, home away from home, comfortable sleeping for 2 (another tiny human possible) plenty of storage, blackout shades for sleeping in. Never plugged in & had power entire time!

Wish we could give 10 stars. We took Haul n Oats down to Hope for the weekend and it was INCREDIBLE. Absolutely every detail is so carefully thought of and you can just see the pride in ownership everywhere you look. You’ll have a hard time giving it back! Everything is set up for whatever adventure you have planned with ample storage for bikes, skis, rafts, coolers, etc… The heater options made it so cozy when the cold/rain kicked in as well. So thankful to have such a rad rig to kick it in when the weather turned sour.

We spent 9 days in The Green Machine road tripping almost 1000 miles across Alaska! We found every adventure we could ask for from sea kayaking to hiking or just finding the perfect river or lake to camp near. It saved us a ton of money having everything we needed to car camp every night and the Roof top tent was way more comfortable than we anticipated. The refrigerator worked great and made meal planning easy, all in all I would of rented this truck forsure again if I had the opportunity. It gave us a perfect home for our trip to explore as much of the state as we could. Kevin was the best host we could of asked for and gave us great adventure, food and camping recommendations as well as providing a very warm welcome to Alaska!! Would recommend this exact setup or any of his other rigs to anyone looking to experience the true adventure Alaska holds.

This truck was AMAZING! Kevin had thought of everything that we would possibly need while getting after it, "Local Style". The set up of the pop up tent took about 30 seconds, and the refrigerator was clutch. It kept our food cold while we were backcountry for four days. We were able to take this truck almost anywhere with the 4WD. There was bomber charge up stations for phones, the fridge, and anything else you would want. We especially appreciated the full kitchen set up, with the MSR Reactor stove and propane that helped us get into the backcountry of Denali.

If you clicked on this vehicle (aptly named Henry), and are taking time to read the reviews, then LOOK NO FURTHER...you have FOUND your ultimate road-trip adventure vehicle!The truck is well equipped with everything you need, and nothing that you don't need. It is simple, not to fancy (although nicely decorated), with a a fridge, camp stove, and sink (drains to greywater tank under sink). There is an "emergency" portable toilet and a shower, neither of which we needed to use. The solar power system is the BEST and creates an endless supply of lighting, refrigeration and power outlets - we never came close to running out.

We can’t recommend renting a vehicle from Kevin (especially the Westfalia) enough!! Kevin is a fantastic communicator and made us feel like we already had a friend in Alaska before our flight even touched down. Pick up and drop off was super smooth. Vincent Van Go ran flawlessly, and staying in a vintage westfalia was one of the top highlights of our vacation. Vincent gets lots of attention on the road and in the campgrounds. We took Vincent down to Kenjai Fords Nat’l park and then up to Denali without issue. Vincent is deceptively spacious inside, with plenty of closets and drawers for organizing gear. The bed was super comfortable, and everything we needed to live van life for a week was provided. We will be recommending this experience to everyone we know who wants to visit Alaska. Thank you Kevin and Look Like a Local for an unforgettable trip!

We had a divine Alaskan adventure, in large part thanks to this car. It’s the perfect size - very roomy in the back, and can comfortably (!) sleep four while still easy to drive. Speaking of which, cruising around is a breeze — the motor got replaced/modernized, and it’s manual. This van is really the best of both worlds, with a vintage feel of a late 70s adventure and the reliability of the modern day. Sparkling clean and organized. Because of the car’s size, you can pull off into unique places to sleep and experience an authentic Alaska free from tourist traps.

There are a few times when you come across a company that truly cares about experience. My latest booking with Outdoorsy connected me to “Look Like a Local” out of Palmer, Alaska. Kevin and Jodi went above, and beyond even before I had even landed in Alaska by reaching out to answer questions or concerns before arriving.When we arrived in Palmer, AK, Kevin, and Jody, welcomed Liberty, and me with fresh Alaska ground coffee and salmon treats for her and a sweet truck ready for adventure. When I asked Kevin and Jody for recommendations since I had no set plans in Alaska, Kevin was surprised that nobody had ever asked him that before. He immediately sent me a master list of his favorite places to go, including places heading north to Talkeetna, Denali, Fairbanks, and the Chena River, and places heading south in Anchorage, Hope, Seward, Homer, and back to Palmer.

It's the best way to make the most out of your trip and create memories that you'll cherish forever. The positivity that comes from immersing yourself in new experiences, surrounded by stunning landscapes and good music, is truly unparalleled.Within minutes of leaving Kevin's Look Like A Local base camp we were cruising down the scenic highways, windows down, wind in our hair, and our favorite tunes blasting through the speakers. The anticipation building as we got closer to the concert venue. This was the kind trip that makes your heart race and your spirit soar. When we finally arrived at the Matanuska Brewing Company, We knew this was a moment that was going to change our lives forever.When my wife and I heard our favorite Band was coming to Alaska, we knew we needed the best vehicle to make it truly unforgettable. That's when we stumbled upon Kevin's Look-Like-A-Local adventure vehicles. Let me tell you, renting from Kevin was the best decision we made! Not only was he a great guy, but his awesome service had everything ready to go. We opted for the Volkswagen Westy, or as we liked to call it, Vincent Van Go. And boy, did that van turn heads! It practically became a selfie station wherever we went. Everyone loved itNow, as we look back on our adventure, we can't help but think of all the memories we made. From the stunning landscapes to the cozy nights in the Westy, it was truly a trip of a lifetime. Our 5-star rental review is well-deserved. We will definitely rent from Kevin again in the future because this van life experience was an A+ in every possible way. So if you're looking for an adventure vehicle that's comfortable, fully outfitted, and fun to drive, renting from Kevin is an absolute must!

Where to begin! This proved to be one of the most phenomenal trips my husband and I have ever taken together.Kevin’s 1984 VW “Westy” was in superb working condition, tidy, and well cared for. The van itself garners a lot of attention from strangers, and for good reason! It’s funky neon green exterior makes it standout in a parking lot or amongst the most grand Alaskan backdrops. The van is thoughtfully equipped with the necessities of travel and boasts a large Iceco refrigerator and Goal Zero Yeti power bank that can be quickly charged within a couple hours every few days. The interior offers plenty of storage, and the Westfalia pop-top adds a lot of space to stand and move around.
